Title: Familiar University Incident (PG, Fantasy, m/m)

Issac realized how privileged he was to be allowed to tour the local university for his article on educational institutions. Not all had been so amenable. Due to disruption of instruction actual classes were off-limits but all the rest he could observe, he’d been told.

There were so many cats on campus and he found himself smiling as he entered one of the dormitories. Housing was a topic of interest in deciding which school to choose. Pets were definitely a plus.

Sounds from one room drew him to interrupt a cat fight.
They told him to get out!
He did.

“I found a quarter among the couch cushions,” Mike mentioned over his salad.

“I vacuumed and cleaned the hell out of that room before we went on holiday,” John frowned.

“I know dear. I cleared the new set of webs out. Relocated the tenants outside.”

“You put them in a good place?”

“In the shrubbery where the floodlights are.”

“Excellent. They’ll eat well there. We’ll need more lighting in the backyard soon.”

“Yes. Until then best to put up the No Vacancy sign. I’d rather not have any critiquing were-spiders in our bedroom. They’re not paying enough for a show.”

“The one that’s marrying the were-spider?” Simon didn’t look up from the newspaper.

“That’s the one. You think it’s safe to go; it says children welcome?”

“There are bound to be were-spiderlings then. Newt and anyone that looks like a bug…”

Andy closed his eyes, “So send a present but won’t be attending. They’ve been living together for a while. What should we get them?”

“He had a big smile on his face and was walking a bit gingerly the other day,” Simon snickered.

Andy sighed, “Gift certificate to ‘that’ site?”

“What are you doing in Newt’s tree house?” Simon called from below.

“Being melodramatic sulking,” came tersely back.

“And that would be why?”

“I feel like it.”

“Newt has these cute little clawed feet to climb up there and you don’t, Andy.”

“Rope ladder.”

“Oh. Then ‘what light’ and all that, let down your ladder. I can make it all better, whatever it is.”

“Sulking.”

“Ooooh yes. I’ve got this magic tongue that flickers and pokes into interesting places and I’m supple enough to poke elsewhere while doing it. Guaranteed mood adjustment. When does Newt get out of school?”

“Hours.”

“Plat-ty idot. Notta good per-thon.”

Andy stopped and looked around for the small person, who in his opinion was much too young to be acquainted with the word idiot. His attention sharpened when it was Newt’s voice that responded.

“Bad word. You say bad word.”

“Not. Hear VT.”

Newt was shaking his head sadly. “Grow-up bad word. Naughty.”

“Platty take toy.”

“Splain Platty. Ask back. It yours.”

Andy was so proud and then he heard, “Daddies hav toys too. They go brrrrrrrooooom brrrrrrooooom and Daddy say bad words, then kiss Daddy Sye.”

His friend nodded, “My too. Big boy toys.”

There were lots of complements on Newt’s Halloween costume. Exclamations on how cute he was and how inventive his parents were to dress him as a worm poking his head from an apple. Of course the apple was actually a small pumpkin but Newt had grown and an apple wasn’t big enough anymore.

“I cuuuuuute,” Newt cooed wiggling in his bath water.

“Yes you were and are,” Andy agreed, “very cute.”

“Cute enough to nibble on,” Simon smiled though he was contemplating nibbling on a different fruit, more of a sensitive plum shaped fruit. Newt should fall asleep early tonight.

“Where’s Newt?”

“The daycare experience wore him out,” Andy smiled coyly. “We came home, he ate a meal and fell asleep practically atop his food so I put him to bed.”

“Oh. Ooooooooh,” as Simon caught on.

The dining room was lit by candles; the table with a dark red tablecloth and in the middle of the table were arrayed bottles of different kinds of lube and toys that weren’t for Newt.

Andy himself wore a translucent, barely covering his hips, night shirt that gaped invitingly down the front.

“You sure it’s safe?”

“Yes. Now… before he does wake up.”

Through what was obviously gritted teeth, “then lie quietly and rest.”

Andy smiled until, “Daddy and I are going to rest too.”
Not good. So not good. Andy held his breath.

“Can I rest with you and Daddy?”

“No. You’ll talk and not rest.”

“I’ll talk quietly.”

“And you’ll want us to listen and then answer. No one will get any rest.”

“You and Daddy will be resting together.”

“Daddy and I won’t be talking. Now rest.”

There was a reluctant, “o-kay.”

“He’s asleep ... finally,” was furtively whispered.

A hushed, “Good. Get the wine, I’ll go light the candles.”

Two figures separated to their tasks, to meet out at the pool for one of their rare romantic interlude.

“That was a good idea to wear him out at the zoo.”

“He tried growling at the lions and I swear they were laughing, roaring back. Newt squealed, ‘Look squirrel’, at the bear.”

Andy’s chuckle was cut off by a kiss and smiling decided naked Simons were a good thing to have in the pool. He opened his thighs.

“Daddies?”

Simon sighed in relief as the onus shifted away from his being Parentis in absentia during the birth, too soon. “There is the matter of how the labor went though. I’ve never witnessed a familiar-snake birth, perhaps Simon could help.”

“I... wasn’t there.”

“Weren’t you?” Jennifer’s brows raised. “I thought you were concerned about the safety of Andy and your child.”

“He’s apologized and I can tell you,” Andy offered. “I was right there after all.”

“Asssssssssho,” said a little mouth around Andy’s nipple.

“Whaaa-?”

“Told you,” Simon smirked and then straightened his face. “Really sorry. I missed our son’s birth and I failed to be there when you needed me, though you did it well all by yourself, but still I’m sorry.”

“You should be,” was directed at Simon, “and Newt don’t say that word.”

And the doctor had this weird thing going on, like she was going to perform some sacred ritual over his belly.
And her hands were cold.

“Jennifer is your regular doctor, I understand.” She smiled as she felt Andy’s tummy. “My name’s Suzan. So I understand you might be in labor. Snake shifter baby?” She glanced at Simon.

“Yes. Andy says his stomach is uncomfortable.”

“It’s just constipation.” Andy rolled his eyes.

“So how long have you had this ‘constipation’?”

“Simon, are there any newts around here?” Andy looked over at his husband and answered himself, “Don’t know, love. Why don’t you look it up yourself.” “Okay I’ll do that,” and he pulled up another window on his laptop.

“What?” Simon blinked. “What did you say?”

Andy’s “Nothing Simon. Go back to doing whatever,” was interrupted by arms sneaking around him and a snuffling behind his ear.

“Sorry love. Was reading about baby care. Little guy might turn to human right away or stay snake or with a combination of both parents features. Think of it a little snake with tiny little arms on him.”

Simon had a bemused smile on his face. Quite adorkable in Andy’s opinion.

“I was asking you and am now looking up newts that might be in this area.”

“Newts,” Simon’s mouth took on a grimace. “Nasty tasting things. Still edible though.”

“SIMON! They’re poisonous. What if the baby gets ahold of one?”

“Probably get a tummy ache and won’t do that again.”

An irritated scowl formed on Andy’s face, “you’re not the one eating for two…” and hit Simon when he put on an innocent expression.

“Nope, I’m not but you aren’t either. I’d say only one and a twelfth right now. Come on, the walk to yon concealing copse will settle our meal and maybe my dulcetly spoken words twill stir a renewing appetite.”

“I’m pregnant, Simon.”

“Doctor said playing ‘hide the snake’ isn’t forbidden.”

“After which I’d have to carry back a limp snake.”

“See. Romantic.”

A doctor’s appointment was scheduled because Simon, for all the ‘it’s perfectly natural’, wanted to make sure everything was okay.

Smiling, Andy ran his eyes over the snake familiar he was creating a family with, who was perched nervously on the chair next to him, fidgeting.

“You know you could be a little more excited about this.”

“I think you’re doing a good enough job of that for both of us. Let’s hope the kids take after me.”

“Simon. Andrew. You’re next.” Luckily Jennifer was a friend and knew Simon, projecting a calming spell at him. “Well? Come on in.”

Arms enclosed Andy, “Shhhh. It’s not me. It’s not me,” Andy’s tears wetting the front of Simon’s shirt.

“It’s my cousin, Clarence, and good riddance.”

The, “Simon,” held remonstration in it.

“Well he is. He came here thinking to get a tail into yours. I KNOW him. Almost twins, we look. Besides he’s not dead… yet.”

Simon grinned. “Is there now? How big is this mouse?”

There was irritation in the answer, “Get your ass in here and bring the lube while you’re about it.”

Laughing, “Oh, the mouse is testy is he?”

“SIMON!”

Simon knew his mission. Locating the lube, he eagerly made his way only to stop and stand beside, a naked but for a towel, Simon whose gaze was firmly fixed inside their pantry.

“Um, we were going to do something?”

“There’s a voyeuristic mouse ‘familiar’ in our pantry.”

Yes, I know this isn't a mouse.
