October Story
Oct. 19th, 2015 03:22 pmTitle: The Case of the less coffee in the pot than should be.
Author: charisstoma
Word count:388
Prompt:What do you call a fat pumpkin? Plumpkin.
Leslie frowned at the coffee carafe. No one had been in that morning except him and he was just now able to pour out his first mug and yet there were two cups of coffee missing from the level in the carafe as if someone had taken a mugful. He’d set it up to make 12 cups, carefully watching the water level in the clear window that indicated how much water was being added. If you went over that 12 cup mark the cleverly evil manufactures had put holes in the back of the water reservoir and you ended up with water running spilling out over the counter.
Since he was strange like that, he asked the nearest object, not the coffee maker since obviously it was in cahoots with whoever was sneaking its coffee, where the missing coffee had gone. This just happened to be the pumpkin surrounded by a wreath of greenery sitting on the counter, one of the numerous Fall Season decorations for the office. Understandably the pumpkin didn’t reply, sitting quietly in its nest with a distinct glowing orangeness about it.
Every day Leslie made coffee. Every day two cups of it would disappear at a time without the aid of any living person. Leslie just assumed that it would be gone by the time November ended. It wasn’t until someone tried to move the pumpkin that a new mystery was presented. It sloshed.
Rotten pumpkins are not pleasant thing to have around the lounge so very carefully the heavier than should be, liquid filled pumpkin was removed to the nearest outside location. Leslie didn’t think anything more about it but as he locked up the building late that dark evening the pumpkin glowed up at him and being like he was he wished it good night.
Walking quickly away, because being the only one around in the dark parking lot with only slight illumination from the light poles is creepy, he could have sworn he heard a burp and the hiss of good night follow him.
Monday morning the pumpkin was withered down to a rumpled empty shell surrounded by a large puddle of thin brown liquid. Leslie tried not to look too closely and he didn’t mention it to the coffee maker which made 12 cups as it should from then on.

What do you do when 50 zombies surround your house?
Why didn’t the skeleton want to go to school?
What do you call a fat pumpkin?
Who did Frankenstein take to the dance?
Why is Superman’s costume so tight?

Sunday = Easter
Apr. 5th, 2015 12:25 pmMom and sister are doing well. Past misdeeds of the baby kind were dragged out and amused on to be compared with current baby deeds of the youngest, 6 months today.
Happy Easter all of you who celebrate this holiday.

Kris gazed at all the green vegetation and sighed. It was Summer in Hawaii, nothing like the snow and cold normal for Winter Holidays. Now he understood why Braydon wanted to come here, Braydon hated being cold.
Frowning because there'd be no excuse for huddling together for 'warmth', Kris looked around.
"Here sir. Your party is waiting in the limo," the man smiled at him. "He said to be looked for a grumpy Santa."
The man never blinked opening the car, revealing Braydon wrapped in a smile and red ribbon with a tag, "Open Me First."

“Are we finally getting rid of all these toilet paper tubes?”
“Don’t be silly, they’re going to be put to good use. Wait.”
The night was dark lit only by a sliver of the Moon against the ebony of the sky but things were on the move out there. From the large house, bobbing small lights flowed over the ground at kitten heights then up into bushes and trees though some strayed to window ledges, porch rails, and flower pots.
Spooky eyes delivered to their designated spots, everyone gathered at the street to gloat and then inside for treat dispersal.

Dear Everybody
Dec. 31st, 2013 12:43 pmExcuse me but I was on this internet and I'd ask you kindly not to interfere with my usage. At approximately 12:20 pm the router started blinking red just like it did at, before and slightly after Christmas. *sighs* Expect that today is going to be a day of reading dead tree books, writing stories, and being frustrated that I can't post them YET, going to the movie and/or TV watching... hmmm If I get a Kindle book up on my computer I could probably read the whole thing before realizing the well had run dry.
So if I disappear that's probably why.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
May our next year be filled with joy, creativity, and friendship where our various differences aren't cause for causing harm.
Would insert gif here but um... posting while I can.

Meridae wanted more because she didn’t like fairly newlywed Dallyn being eaten by the tree. Really have to indulge her, it’s that time of year. Especially on January 1st.

With a sharp cry of, “Noooooo,” Ardnel collapsed against the wall before flinging himself towards the tree screaming, “Give him back! You can’t have him! Dallyn! Dallyn!” Officer Maitland caught him just in time where Ardnel struggled briefly to crumple into unattractive nose running weeping.
“What’s going on here?!” came a voice from the front doorway. “Oh hell, where’s Ardnel?” was more worriedly asked. “ARDIE?”
A heavy thud made an interesting sound of breaking glass amongst the crinkle of plastic bag. “Ardie, are you all right?” was asked into the transferred teary mess that was Ardnel.
“You’re alive. You’re okay. The tree didn’t eat you,” was punctuated by kisses.
“Tree?” Dallyn looked around at the police officers who’d invaded his home, taking in the one in the chair currently bleeding into it and then looked at the tree.
“I’m going to kill him,” was said in a low menacing voice, “he said that Blackwoods trees were safe during the winter because they went dormant.”
“And who would that be Mr.?”
“Dallyn Aghdashloo. I’m Dallyn Aghdashloo. My co-worker, Auroch. Malikai Auroch is the one who told me about finding a tree for Christmas up in the Blackwoods. Said that they needed to be thinned out and they were free for the cutting. I didn’t think he’d kill to get the account. It’s Christmas.”
“We’ll be wanting to speak to him. Where did you say your place of employment was Mr. Aghdashloo?” The book was open and the pencil poised.
It was hours before the crime scene would be processed and Dallyn and Ardnel were told to gather what they needed to go stay with relatives. Tenderly ushering Ardie out and into the car, Dallyn snapped in the seatbelt around him before going to his side of the car and driving away from his home.
In a more jolly tone, “So which relative should we go stay at?” Dallyn asked.
“First we need to go to Aunt Tammy’s and let her know that she’s a widow. Maybe we could stay there because I doubt she wants to be with her relatives since we’re all in mourning. She is expecting us.” Ardie said.
“Aunt Tammy’s it is then. That was a very good idea about the tree. Worked like a charm. I’ll have no problem getting the account now.”
“Oh I can’t claim the credit. It was Aunt Tammy’s idea,” Ardie said wiping his eyes and blowing his nose.

Title: Peace and Love (G at this point)
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 200
Prompt: Christmas
Set in Wizard’s World again. *grins* I blame Meridae for starting it up again.
The quiet was broken only by the crackling snap from the hearth. Close enough for warmth but not too close for danger, the basket held the small furry bodies under a fluffy soft blanket. It was pleasant in the dimness of the room, Balthazar thought as he lazed back waiting for his two lovers to return from making sure the other litters of kitten-familiars were all settled for the night. Settling the older kittens couldn’t have been easy but the tromping through the cold crystalline out-of-doors; pointing out that bird or that icicle or how the fir tree limbs bent down providing shelter for the forest’s creatures, magical and non; had probably worn them out, he hoped. He’d done his bit with the kittens while warm treats were being assembled for their return.
It was all a clever plot to ensure that the three of them could share some quality time together.
After Christmas there was a lull before the build up to New Years. They had learned to start their Yule celebrations early. Prior planning was important with kittens in the house, inquisitive kittens, who really didn’t need to know that their Papas’ love extended past kisses and hugs.

Title: The small Joys of Christmas (G, Wizard World 'Verse)
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 100
Prompt: Christmas
This is from the Wizard’s World ‘verse and is a prequel of Meridae’s Battle of the Christmas Tree
Ranel is one of these familiar-kittens.
There was shredded wrapping paper all over the living room giving it a festive look. A small heap moved with a rustle, poking out a whiskered nose before leaping out to chase something under the wrapping litter. Frenzied noisy activity erupted as more small furry lumps jumped out of hiding attacking paper and their siblings.
Brian sighed, looking first at the presents and then at the wrapping paper. Maybe they should just wrap empty boxes next year. The kittens didn’t seem to know the difference. Hopefully there was a helpful spell Balthazar knew to magically pick up all this mess.

Prep Time:5 min Inactive Prep Time:15 min Cook Time:6 hr 5 min
Serves: 15 to 20 servings
Ingredients
18 to 20-pound smoked ham, water added, ham hock removed
One 16-ounce box light brown sugar
1 cup (8-ounce jar) clover honey

1/4 t ground cloves/ginger?
1T mustard- dry vs dijon??

Adjust the oven racks to accommodate a large covered roasting pan. Fit the pan with a shallow rack. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Unwrap the ham and rinse it in cold water. Place it on the rack in the roasting pan. Cover the pan with the lid and bake for half the estimated cooking time (Total cooking time is about 20 minutes per pound.)
Halfway through the estimated cooking time, add the sugar and honey to a saucepan, cooking over medium heat until smooth and sugar is dissolved.
Pour the honey mixture over the ham and continue baking the ham, basting occasionally with the drippings in the roaster.
Check for doneness at the end of the estimated cooking time by inserting a meat thermometer at a meaty point (not into fat or touching the bone). It should register 160 degrees F.
Allow the ham to stand for 15 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to set.
