Title: If You Love Me
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 723
This was supposed to be ‘Kittens on a Farm’. It has to do with felines, familiar felines, so of course it went where it wanted.
Continues at If You Love Me Redux

The meal was going to be perfection, Charm thought, as he looked over the candle lit palest of green tablecloth at crystal and the gleaming of dainty floral patterned china. Please let it be perfection.

The delicate chimes of Westminster sounded from the Anniversary Clock on the mantel in its glass dome, the four golden balls within swinging around and back. Darrell was late. Maybe he didn’t want to come to dinner after all. Maybe he was lost in traffic because Charm’s directions weren’t clear. Maybe he’d been in an accident and clinging to life in a hospital without anyone to tell them who he was.

He would not fur out. He could handle this in his human form … maybe. Already there was the prickling of fluffing under his skin, he could feel it. He WOULD stay in his human form.

Muffled thuds came from the front door and dulcet tones from the doorbell still echoed in the front entry as Charm threw open the door in welcome and froze. Darrell stood on the doorstep holding a large cloth cover squirming basket from which a small whiskered face pushed out from under and then another and another.

“Sorry,” Darrell mumbled reddening, “My brother had to stay late at work. I’ve got the kids.”

Only then did Charm notice how bedraggled Darrell’s clothing was, like he’d been wrestling with a mountain lion for there were scratches that looked fresh and puffy pink on his hands.

“You stop that,” hissed Charm at the basket, “act as if you know how to behave correctly in someone else’s home,” before reaching out and pulling Darrell into the house. “Your brother’s kittens?” he asked in confusion.

“Daren finds strays and ‘domesticates’ them until he can find good matches for them. These are a little younger and more than he’s usually had in the past.” The basket had settled into three tense little shapes, the eyes on familiar kitten faces huge in worry.

“You watch them when your brother is at work?” Charm eyed the small faces sternly. “I thought you were still in University. When do you study and go to classes?”

“I do, there’s a crèche at the University when I’m in classes. Look maybe I should go,” Darrell shame faced and disappointed said.

“No you don’t, you aren’t getting away so easily.” Peering down at the kittens, “Nursery school, hmm. What are you learning while you’re at school,” was asked of the kittens, Charm’s claws still hooked in Darrell’s sleeve as he drew him and the kittens further into his home.

“I know how to wash behind my own ears,” squeaked one.
“I’m really good at covering my … use the litter box. Climbed into it all by myself yesterday,” said another.
“ABCs,” the third added. “Want to hear us sing it?” was asked hopefully.

“After dinner. Yes, I would.” He looked up at Darrell, “I’ve some boiled chicken that might do for them. The Chicken Marsala isn’t appropriate for kittens, there’s wine in it. I’ll put place mats down and they can eat on the table.” Looking at the kittens, “there’ll be no playing with your food and the peas stay on the plate before you eat them. I know they roll like balls but I DON’T want them on the floor.”

At Darrell, “put the basket down and let them come out and explore while I get the table kitten ready and serve up the food.” Charm sighed, “I wanted this to be a romantic dinner for two,” he smiled, “but a family of 5 works too.”

“I love you,” Darrell smiled forgetting he was still holding the basket as he stepped into Charm to kiss him. The little mews from the basket had him jerk back slightly.

Taking the basket from him and placing it on the floor where the little bodies struggled to get over the sides, Charm claimed that kiss. “It’s okay, Cable has the Disney Channel. I’m sure that we can find something that will amuse them after they’ve explored and eaten and they shouldn’t be too far from sleep after that. We’ll make do.” He smiled. “Just wait a moment while I put the phone book down to act as a step into the litter box for little legs.” He pecked a kiss, “And I love you too.”

Sunday Snuggles Guidelines

Please read and adhere to the community guidelines. These guidelines are designed to facilitate ease of use for the reader and writer to track various stories, authors, and pairings. Guidelines will be enforced. Thanks!

General Guideline on Warnings
This is a fluffy, schmoopy romance fiction community. This community is designed to be a safe space for members to read and write light-hearted romance. As such, stories should not need to issue warnings for content. This is Hallmark movie stuff, folks. Not hardcore movie stuff.

In short: if your story needs a warning for something triggery, don't post it here. It will be deleted.

While we appreciate your desire to tell your story in your own way, please understand that as a member you agree to participate by following certain community guidelines. No porn, no underage sex, no hardcore BDSM, no drugs, no sexual assault, no death, no rampant bodily fluids, and no existential ennui. Use common sense.

Please follow the formats below for posting and tagging. Things will run much more smoothly!

Posting Original Fiction
When posting original fiction, please format your subject line like this:
original: "TITLE." slash.

or

original: "TITLE." het.

If you do not have a title, label it "untitled."

Acceptable categories are:
slash
femslash
het
poly

--and any combination thereof. Basically, try to let your audience know as clearly as possible what they are about to read. We don't want any unpleasant surprises. ("Ew, het!" "Gross, slash!")

You do not need to indicate a wordcount. All stories should range from ~800-1000 words. They are all going to be short!

If you would like to, please post a short summary "intro" to the fic. However, this is not mandatory!

Example:
(subject) original: "Rubber Ducky." m/m.
Summary: Sometimes, buying your nephew a simple bath toy can lead to finding a gift of your own...
Your story's tags may give readers further clues on what they'll find. See the tag section below.

Posting Fanfiction
If you're posting fanfiction, the rules are generally the same as those above, with a few changes. In your subject line, you'll write:
fanfic: "TITLE." pairing. spoilers.
replace "pairing" = sasuke/naruto, bella/edward, tom/jerry, dean/pie
Because fanfic could potentially contain spoilers, please be sure to add that to your subject line if you feel it's necessary. Use the most recent five episodes as a guideline. If it happened before then, chances are it's out in the public spoiler domain. But anything within the most recent five episodes (or issues) in your fandom, please indicate that there are potential spoilers.

This community is about making the writers and the readers feel good, and nothing makes some folks frown faster than an unexpected spoiler getting all up in their face.

Feel free to add an intro summary, as well. See the "Tagging" section for further info.

Tagging Your Posts

!Required Tags!
When tagging your posts, please tag yourself as the author using your lj name, like this:
author: aggybird

Make sure you also tag your story:
original
fanfic

If your post contains artwork, please tag it with the artist and type of artwork. E.g.:

artist: aggybird
fanart
original art

Two other tagging categories are required: established vs. first time. Established means the couple is already together. First time means they are getting together for the first time. Tag them like this:
status: established
status: first time

Also, please be sure to tag your fic as either: slash, het, or femslash. Additionally, use these tags plus the poly tag if it's applicable. This will make sorting things later on much easier. If you want a first time original slash fic, then it's very simple to find!

!Required tags for fanfic!
Please tag the pairing in your fanfic like this:
pairing: hotch/reid

Example:
(subject) fanfic: "damn that traffic jam." merlin/arthur.
Summary: When a stubborn herd of sheep block Merlin and Arthur's journey home, they take an alternate route that changes everything...
(tags) author: aggybird, pairing: merlin/arthur, slash, status: first time

It's not too crazy. The tags are designed to make the community search-friendly. If we tag things properly now, you won't have to skip?1000 to find that one Harry/Draco ficlet you loved or that original one with the ghost hunter and the movie theatre clerk.

!Optional Tags!
If you'd like to give potential readers more info, do it with "element" tags:
element: hugging
element: kissing
element: coffee
element: puppies
element: fairytale
element: doing-laundry
element: first-date
&etc.

If you screw up when you post or forget a tag, don't sweat it. A mod will come along to give you a gentle nudge to correct the post. Of course, more than three infractions and we bring out the wet noodle.

Happy Posting!

FAQ
http://sundaysnuggles.livejournal.com/407.html

Hello and welcome to Sunday Snuggles! Sunday Snuggles is a weekly writing community for posting short romantic fiction. It's a great way for writers to flex their creative muscles by posting a short story every week and a great place for fans of schmoopy romance fiction to get a quick hit to carry them into the week.

Please check out the community FAQ below:

When do I post?
You can post every Sunday. As long as it's Sunday some place in the world (even if you don't live there) feel free to post your story.

Can I post on a day other than Sunday?
Not at this time.

Do I have to post every week?
No, posting is not mandatory. It's great if you have a personal goal to post every Sunday (in fact, it's awesome!) but if you miss a Sunday, don't sweat it.

Can I post more than once?
In order to make things fair, we ask that you only post one short ficlet each Sunday.

What can I write about?
Romance! You can write about romance in any shape or form. That means het or slash fiction, first-time romance, or established romance. Basically, screw gen fic. We want kissing!

You can write about original characters or you can write fanfic. It's up to you. However, please check out the posting guidelines for how to post your story if you are posting fanfic.

How long can my story be?
Try to keep your story between 800-1000 words. Brevity is the soul of wit, after all.

My story is shorter than 800 words. HALP.
Never fear! If you're shy of the magical 800 mark you can still post your story, provided you are within the same ballpark. Keep in mind that the stories posted here are meant to be romantic short fiction--that usually means beginning, middle, and end. If you can do all that in 650 words, then that's fine. If you're unsure, contact a mod before posting.

But do try to hit that 800 mark--that number is for your benefit, too! This community is about sugary-sweet romance production as much as it is consumption--and the more you write, the more practice you get. Push yourself!

My story is longer than 1000 words. Can I still post it?
Some leeway will be given w/r/t story length, but please try to keep all stories between 800-1000 words. This is to make it easier on you! If you find your story clocks less than 2000 words, you can post it. Anything longer than that, please contact one of the mods.

But what if I post 1000 words one week and 1000 words the next?
Okay, so you're sly. This is where it gets tricky. This community is not for WIPs. However, if you want to write about an established couple, then think "timestamps." 1000 words each week of a continuing story is a WIP. 1000 words each week about the same characters but in different unconnected situations is a timestamp. Pretty simple.

But I want to write more!
That's great! Awesome, even! But this is not the place for it. We might incorporate something later on in the community that addresses these issues, but for now, stick to one-shot short stories.

Can I write porn?
No, sorry. This community is strictly for fluffy romance. Porn is super-swell, (boy-howdy, is it!) just not in this venue. There are plenty of other communities out there for that.

What is this, the Victorian Era?
Not at all! Crank that story up to a steamy PG-13 if you want. And thanks to modern Hollywood, PG-13 gives you room to be just a little naughty.

So I can't write porn. Are you tyrants forcing me to participate in the challenges, too?
Nope! The challenges are only intended as a way to get those creative juices flowing; they are in no way mandatory. In fact, the only thing mandatory in your stories is the romance!

Well, then I want to suggest a challenge!
Great! Drop a comment on the challenge post or PM one of the mods.

When do challenges post?
Challenges will always post on the Sunday before the challenge is due, in order to give writers a full week to get their story together.

Can I crosspost my stories?
Sure! Why the heck wouldn't you? We don't own you.

That's more like it! How about fake-cuts?
Those are okay, too, as long they are explicitly stated as such. We don't want any readers feeling tricked into leaving this comm's safe space. If they choose to follow the fake-cut to your journal, it's at their own risk.

Say I have several one shots in the same universe. Can I link to a masterlist?
Not in the comm. But if you want to fake-cut to your own journal and have a masterlist there, that's fine.

What about art?
Artwork is totally encouraged, as long as it accompanies a fic and follows the same ratings guidelines.

*snickers* Sunday Snuggle?

* A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns http://www.worldburnsclub.com/poems/translations/a_red_red_rose.htm

He looked down at the flower he held between fingers and thumb. So beautiful a deep pink was the bud, blushing from base to tip. Perfection, he thought breathing in its scent, touching and drawing its smooth velvet over the sensitive skin of his face and down to stroke back and forth across his lips. Warm sweet perfection.

The day had been hot and his love lay upon the sheets splayed exhausted, the romantic flickering of candle light highlighting his naked form. Yes, perfection, and he drew the furled petals over vulnerable skin watching it blush even as the bud, rose to rose pink.

“O, my luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June.
O, my luve's like the melodie,
That's sweetly play'd in tune.*” he quoted.

He stopped and grinned, “well, perhaps not red red, least wise not yet, but the night is young.”

His lover’s eyes smoldered tiredly, “You’re going to try killing me with sex, aren’t you?”

“ERIK. If you can’t tell romantic love making from plain sex, I’m not doing it right. I’m spouting poetry while clasping a rose here.”

“I know love and you’re doing very well but I’ll be more interested in that rose bud of yours when I’ve recovered a bit. Then we’ll see about the romantic using of your blossom. In the mean time, kisses I hear have greater restorative powers,” he grinned wickedly tracing a finger pad over John’s lips, “your rose bud to mine.”
“It’s my turn next,” he whispered against John’s neck nipping lightly and dragged him down into position for the beginning of those reinvigorating kisses.
