Artist Creates Life-Size Sculptures Of Women Inspired By Renaissance Art, Reveals The Beauty Of Female Form

Chinese artist Luo Li Rong creates life-size bronze sculpture art of women inspired by Renaissance and Baroque sculpting techniques. Her statues are usually captured in motion, often with their dresses or garments seemingly fluttering in the breeze around them, and the artist’s meticulous attention to detail ensures that every crease and fold is precisely where it should be. Rong has been creating modern sculptures for much of her life, having studied at Beijing’s Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of a famous sculptor Wang Du. Later she turned her attention to sculpting techniques used by European artists in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, something that seems to define much of her contemporary, realistic artworks. Scroll down for some of her best sculptures, combining the best of Renaissance and modern art techniques.

Kelvin-Helmholtz waves
They're Kelvin-Helmholtz waves, which usually form on windy days when there is a velocity difference across the interface between two fluids, such as wind blowing over water, according to EarthSky.org.

When there is a difference of air densities, and the upper air is moving at a higher speed, the clouds will whip up into wave-like shapes.

The waves are named after Lord Kelvin and Hermann von Helmholtz, who studied the physics behind this cloud formation. The presence of Kelvin-Helmholtz waves, could mean there is an atmospheric instability – which could mean turbulence for aircraft.

These odd clouds have been stopping people in their tracks for centuries – they are even believed to have inspired Van Gogh's "Starry Night," according to EarthSky.

Hylas

https://www.the-tls.co.uk/who-was-hylas/

The story of Hylas first turns up in surviving sources in Theocritus (Idyll 13), . He is a young lover of Heracles, who is pulled into the water by these nymphs, and lost. Heracles searches for him, but in vain. This is a variant on the ‘femme fatale’ of ancient, and Victorian, sexism (watch those women: with their destructive sexuality, they’ll literally destroy you).

Pederasty in ancient Greece was a socially acknowledged romantic relationship between an adult male (the erastes) and a younger male (the eromenos) usually in his teens.

As a young male grew up he moved onto heterosexual relations.

So the story of Hylas could be of a coming of age story, when he is indeed lost to Heracles to take up his responsibilities to the City-State siring new citizens.

Pylos Combat Agate

Pylos Combat Agate 2

In spring 2016, a team of archeologists from the University of Cincinnati was digging at a Mycenaean site in the Pylos region of Greece when they made a surprising discovery: the intact tomb of a Bronze Age warrior dating to about 1500 B.C. The Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports declared the find the “most important to have been discovered in 65 years.”

Now, almost two years later, the tomb has revealed its most valuable secret, and intricately carved sealstone that researchers are calling “one of the finest works of prehistoric Greek art ever discovered.” It didn’t look so at first, but once a thick crust of limestone was cleared off it revealed a detailed scene of a victorious warrior, one defeated opponent beneath his feet and another falling at the tip of his sword. And all this was carved in meticulous detail on a piece of stone just over 1.4 inches long.
