Pirates - rodents who because of their predilection for pastry filled with various meat and/or fruit concoctions are called Pie-Rats. Not to be confused with Cowpie-Rats which don't exist.

Cowpie is fecal material dropped by a bovine. They give a wet splot on the ground.

Cowpie is a farm or ranch thing to know. There are some places where they have contests to see who can throw them the furthest (my parents returned from camping with that bit of information. The cowpies are dry, not wet and soggy)
My Mom brought home a tree fungus that looked like a cowpie for setting on the livingroom coffee table. I had a strange upbringing.

I was shocked when my then husband told me about what he and his siblings used to do. They'd fling horse apples at each other, the ones that were still mushy in the middle were the best because they'd go splat on their opponent. Horse apples are like cowpies but from horses.

btw & just in case... Pie-rats.... the rodent part... not true.
