Lord Appleton’s obituary had been placed in the paper signaling Stephen’s rise in society and the family’s decent into their mourning. A grand-uncle didn’t necessarily require full mourning but he knew Stephen had been close to the man. Anthony wondered if their card game would fall to grief. To forestall that, he offered a discrete invitation to his rooms.

Come for cards, wine, and companionship.
Signing it with his M.

Stephen had come and unsurprisingly lost. Through the simple expedient of attentions, Anthony had soothed tears with kisses and words; spooned around Stephen and buried himself deeply through the night.

Aw! It seems Anthony knew exactly how to comfort Stephen, using their familiar card game as an opportunity for healing instead of a charming competition this time. Lovely!

*cuddles* Thank you. There's more than just sex in their cards games and comforting is on the list of things done to the loser.
