Rice Pudding

Rice Pudding

Ingredients
1/2 cup Raisins (golden Or Regular)
1/2 cup Bourbon Or Other Whiskey (optional)
1 cup Medium Grain White Rice
2 cups Water
2 cups Milk (I Used 1%%)
2 Tablespoons Heavy Cream
1 Tablespoon Salted Butter
Pinch Of Salt
8 ounces, fluid Sweetened Condensed Milk, More If Needed
Dash Of Ground Cinnamon
Dash Of Ground Nutmeg
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
1 whole Egg, Beaten


Caramel-Pecan Sauce
1/2 cup Butter
1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup
1/2 cup Chopped Pecans
1 Tablespoon Bourbon Or Other Whiskey (optional)



Instructions
1. In a small bowl, combine the raisins and whiskey. Set aside for 1 hour.

2. In a medium saucepan or pot, combine the rice, water, milk, cream, butter, and salt. Bring it to a gentle boil, then cover the pot, reduce it to low, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring twice during this stage.

Note: The rice should be cooked, but there should still be visible creamy liquid; it should not all be absorbed. If the liquid looks like it is absorbing more quickly than this, you can cut this stage to 18-20 minutes.

3. Remove the pot from the stove and add the sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Return to low heat for 5 minutes to finish cooking.

4. Remove the pot from the stove and slowly drizzle in the beaten egg, stirring constantly. Drain the raisins and stir them in. If you’d like the pudding to be a little creamier, stir in a little more sweetened condensed milk. If it’s too creamy, return to the stovetop and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. Serve immediately in a small bowl.

While the rice is cooking for the first stage, make the Caramel-Pecan Sauce:

1.Combine 1/2 cup butter, brown sugar, light corn syrup, and chopped pecans.

2.Heat up the mixture over medium-low heat, then allow to bubbly gently for 5 minutes, or until consistency is like a nice caramel sauce..

3.Remove from the heat and set aside.


Top each portion of rice pudding with some of the Caramel-Pecan Sauce.

Dark Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients

5 1/4 ounces Hershey’s bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
14 ounces cold heavy cream
3 large egg whites
1 ounce sugar
Sweetened whipped cream, for garnish, optional
Shaved bittersweet chocolate, for garnish, optional

Directions

1. Place Hershey’s chocolate in a large bowl set over a double boiler at a low simmer. Stir chocolate until melted. Turn off the heat and let stand.

2.Beat the heavy cream over ice until it forms soft peaks. Set aside and hold at room temperature.

3. With a mixer, whip egg whites to soft peaks.

4. Gradually add the sugar to egg whites and continue whipping until firm.

5. Remove the chocolate and using a whisk, fold in the egg whites all at once.

6. When the whites are almost completely incorporated, fold in the whipped cream.

7. Cover the mousse and refrigerate for about an 1 hour or until firm.

Quick Tip: Top each serving with more whipped cream and some shaved chocolate – dark of course!

Most patients with the flu will recover on their own without medical care. But in some cases, the flu can be life-threatening, and so it's important to know how to recognize signs of a flu emergency, according to the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).

According to ACEP, signs that the flu requires emergency care for adults include:

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.
Chest pain or abdominal pain.
Sudden dizziness.
Confusion.
Severe or persistent vomiting.
Flu-like symptoms that appear to get better, but then return with a fever and worse cough.
Swelling in the mouth or throat.

In children, emergency symptoms include:

Fast breathing or trouble breathing.

Bluish skin color.
Not drinking enough fluids.
Not waking up or not interacting.
Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held.
Flu-like symptoms that improve, but then return with a fever and worse cough.
Fever with a rash.

More common, nonemergency symptoms of the flu can include fever and chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache or body ache, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea, according to ACEP.

Other tips to avoid catching the flu this season include washing your hands often, avoiding direct contact with ill people and getting a flu shot, Kivela said." Even though the flu shot is less effective this year, it still can reduce your risk of getting the flu and having serious complications," Kivela said.

People who are at high risk for flu complications include young children, people ages 65 and over, pregnant women and people with chronic conditions, according to the CDC. If people in this "high-risk" group develop flu-like symptoms, the CDC recommends that they should receive treatment with antiviral medications early in the course of their illness. To ask about receiving these treatments, people can contact their health care provider rather than go to the ER if they do not have signs of a flu emergency, the CDC said.

People can also avoid spreading germs by covering their mouth when they cough, washing their hands and staying home from work, school or other activities when they aren't feeling well, Kivela said.

Jackets with patches have entered the scene again. Pick out your favorite patches, the jacket that fits you perfectly, and a tube of Clear Grip - you’ll be all set up to make one for yourself.

If you’re on the thrifty side, head to a local second hand store and pick up a pre-loved jacket and you may even find some patches there!

Here at Gorilla, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, we decided to make a jacket with our Ohio flag on it! We also have some Gorilla Glue logo patches, and other beauties we found at our local craft store.



1. Start by deciding where you want to place the patch. Consider keeping it in a place that is visible, and won’t snag on seat belts, bracelets, etc.

2. Lay the jacket flat, and apply the glue to the jacket and to the patch.

3. Wait 2 minutes while the adhesive “flashes” off - the contact adhesive creates its strong bond by evaporation.

4. When you place the patch on the jacket, match the glued fabrics together, and press firmly while they adhere to one another.

5. The two pieces should stick immediately, and are fully cured in 24 hours. After a full cure, the glue is even washer and dryer safe!

Slow cooker chicken teriyaki

Ingredients

3 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, chopped
3/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup rice vinegar
2 garlic cloves, minced
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
4 teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup green onion, finely chopped

Directions

1. Place chopped chicken in bottom of 4-quart slow cooker.
2. Wisk together soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, garlic and ginger. Pour over chicken.
3. Cover and cook on low 4-5 hours.
4. Remove chicken. While slow cooker is still warm (or left on the warm setting if your has one), mix cornstarch with warm water until smooth. Slowly add into sauce in the slow cooker to thicken, mixing as you add.
5. Return chicken to slow cooker and stir to coat in sauce.


Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken

Stir together:
cornstarch
water

Add then stir:
garlic
ginger
soy sauce
rice wine vinegar
brown sugar
honey
mirin*

Add and stir:
cubed chicken breasts
sliced onion
sliced green peppers
pineapple chunks

Cook on high 3 hours
Serve over rice.




*a type of rice wine similar to sake, but with a lower alcohol content and higher sugar content. You can sub in a dry sherry or a sweet marsala wine. Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Making teriyaki is a simple process of reduction. Mix 2 parts sake, 1 part mirin, and 1 part soy in a sauce pan, and turn the stove to medium heat. You have to reduce teriyaki more than you think; the goal of reduction is to remove water from the mixture to concentrate the sugar, salt, and umami present in all of those ingredients. We want our teriyaki to be seriously syrupy and thick. Once it starts to noticeably reduce, turn the heat down, since sugar will burn pretty easily at this point. You know what they say: Better safe than burning your teriyaki (aka sorry).

Teriyaki is a very simple Japanese condiment that usually consists of just three ingredients: Sake (rice wine), mirin (sweet, low-alcohol rice wine), and soy sauce (the salty, fermented soy bean-based condiment you know and love).

All these ingredients are very shelf stable, versatile ingredients, so they’re great investments. (Okay, well, sake should technically be refrigerated after opening, but if you're using it for sauce and not for sipping you can get away with keeping it on the shelf.)

Once you make teriyaki sauce, you can keep it for weeks in the fridge.
