Duncan read the note stuck to the outside of the mailbox and glanced inside. Sure enough there was a spider and a big one that looked back at him with large pupiled green eyes.
“Well, hello there. The person that has their mail delivered to this box is bothered by your presence. I don’t suppose that I could convince you to move?”
The spider looked at him and if Duncan wasn’t imagining it, those eyes narrowed slightly.
“Look, the owner of this house is married to a snake shifter, I think that’s what he said,” Duncan rolled his eyes. He had the strangest people to deliver to. The families down two streets over, in nice big houses with nicely landscaped shrubbery, seemed to be cat and kitten hoarders. There was no accounting for people. “Anyway, he said that their son was a newt and if I remember correctly newts eat critters like you, so you really should leave.” The spider’s eyes had widened then narrowed further. Duncan knew he had to be seeing things, this job was getting to him and if he was going to survive he needed to take a few days off, soon, before the holidays had him delivering suspicious packages like last year from pet stores purporting to hold live mice.
Luckily there wasn’t any mail to deliver today to this residence. Pulling a pencil stub out of his breast pocket, he scrawled, ‘Have talked to the spider. Will see what I can do if the situation continues. Your Postal Carrier. ’ Then he carefully stuck the note back, between the ‘attention - mail to go out’ flag and the mailbox, and continued on his route.
The next day,he felt silly, carrying a cleaned and empty glass jar in his mailbag. He’d taken a nail and hammer to the lid so there’d be air holes for the possible evictee. It’s all in the cause of good service, Duncan told himself. Never could he see himself squashing the spider if it didn’t see reason… he rolled his eyes, now he was acting as if it weren’t ‘just’ a spider but had feelings. It was those narrowed eyes when he’d called it a critter, he thought. I’m personifying a bug.
The note was bigger it seemed and the 4 letters took up the whole page.
HELP!
“So I see that you’re still in residence. The homeowner that receives his mail here is getting frantic. Look!” Duncan held the paper up so the spider could see. He watched the legs brace themselves, though whether to run or stand firm he wasn’t sure.
“Can you trust me,” Duncan begged. “Crawl into the jar and I’ll take you home with me. I’ve a largish apartment and there’s plenty of room for the both of us as long as you aren’t on the floor when I’m half asleep trying to find the coffee pot or the bathroom. Oh and no sneaking into bed when I’m sleeping in it.”
The spider stared at him and seeming to have come to a conclusion moved towards the mailbox’s entrance.
Taking his courage in both hands, Duncan removed the jar lid and showed it to the spider, “See air holes.” He held the jar on its side so the spider could walk into it and watched in amazement as it entered the jar. “O-kay then. I’ll try not to jostle you too much and at the end of every street I’ll open the lid so you can get a fresh breath of air.” He did too.
Day’s end was a little longer in coming because of the extra care taken to see that his passenger was not harmed. Finally he dropped off his mailbag and removed the jar, looking closely at the occupant to check for harm though what he’d do if there was any he didn’t know.
“I doubt a vet would or could treat a spider,” Duncan half said to himself, “other than killing him and that’s not on the cards.” Spotting a box of facial tissues, he snatched one up and surreptitiously bunched it into a sort of pad before carefully inserting it into the jar and watched as the spider climbed up onto it.
“Okay, next stop is home. I’ll see if I can find a couple flies or something for you but after that it’s pretty much up to you to find your own food.”
He didn’t find any flies and the cockroaches that normally would scurry away when he opened the door weren’t in evidence. It was almost like someone had warned them there was a new spider in residence added to the place.
Taking the lid off and turning the jar slowly onto its side to place it under the ledge below the cabinets, “there you go. Home sweet home. I’m going to go shower and then come back and make some dinner. Sorry. The roaches seem to know you were coming. I’ll leave some food out that might attract them, ‘K?”
Tiredly rubbing his hands over his face Duncan made his way naked from his bedroom to the bathroom for his shower and collided with a hard body, a hard male body with green eyes and a smile that said it liked what it saw.
“EEEEK! I mean, Holy fuck!”
Arms enclosed him, “Hi. And yes eeek is something I’m used to hearing.” There was a chuckle underlying the words. “I’m Arkie and I’m your new roommate, aka ‘the spider from the mailbox’.”
“NO!”
“Yes.”
“NO!”
Laughing and rubbing himself against Duncan, “Ooooooh yes.”
“Stop that. And you can not be the spider. You’ve too few legs and bigger and I'm more tired than I thought.”
“But you like when I rub against you like this,” Arkie added motion to his words. “There’s a part of you that loves when I do that. I’m hungry and I’ll only take a sip a day. Promise. It’s good to donate. Builds up your body’s blood health.”
“This is not happening. This is not happening. I’m taking a shower and then going to bed.”
Duncan steadfastly ignored the person in the shower with him. No he did not just wash another man’s back for him or put out another towel. And when he crawled into bed, the body that fit itself behind him was not there. The kisses, pressed to his shoulder and neck, were soft. Almost he missed the small bite but he was halfway asleep and it was all a dream by that time anyway.
Morning was different. First there was a warm body in bed with him which was not unpleasant. There was also evidence that it was a male body that was interested in him, judging by the activity it was engaging in. Duncan allowed a little more room between his thighs and heard a happy sigh in his ear.
“Coffee, I think you mentioned?”
“You can drink coffee?”
“Yep. Am not just blood nourished.”
“What are you exactly, since I’m in the world of crazy?”
“Were-spider. Think of me as a vampire that can eat regular food but loves bodily fluids, especially yours.” There was a nudge of a certain male part forward, “ and I can change into a spider when I want.”
“You’re fucking with me right?”
“Want to.”
“So I’m officially insane.”
“Nope. You’re officially taken.”
“We’re going together now?”
“If you want to be.”
“Were-spider, huh. Imagine that I shouldn’t mention that to anyone.”
There was a laugh, “Probably not a good idea but I wouldn’t mind being introduced as your mate.”
“O-kaaaaay. So coffee huh?”
“You work today?”
“No.”
“Then how about you give up some fluid nourishment for me, as in I suck something I think you’ll like me sucking and then I’ll insert something of mine into you that you’ll enjoy. You haven’t lived until you’ve been fucked by a were-spider and if you’ve ever thought about bondage, I’m the person to help you with that.”
Duncan’s eyes were kind of glazed. “Sucking as in human style sucking…?”
“As in my mouth, your cock.”
“Bondage?”
Duncan could feel the smile against his skin.
“Not today. Need to build some trust before we go there.”
“If I ask nicely.”
“You’re going to get fucked before you get sucked, if you keep this up.”
“I’m up. Really, I’m up.”
Soft laughter caressed Duncan, “I am so lucky to have you find me.”
“Would you please just get to getting lucky already?”
And so they did.
