Ninja meowlets!

They'd barely escaped this time, and no matter with Piotr said, Zennor knew they were lucky. He'd carried two of their precious melowlets to safety, while Piotr escaped with the third, ducking into back alleys and behind dumpsters and under hedges, and it had taken him so long to reach their meeting point that Zen had feared both his partner and his kitten (owlet!) were lost.

"Are you sure?" he asked again fearfully, gazing down at his three kittens (owlets!) peacefully asleep in the makeshift nest Piotr had insisted on constructing for them even though they'd have to leave by tomorrow morning at the earliest.

Or . . or . . oh precious hope that Piotr's promises came through, that they truly had found someone who would help them, who held no predjudice against cross species marriages, who thought there was nothing wrong with kittens and owlets being bred together to make the cutest little melowlets the world had ever seen.

"Breathe, my love, breathe," Piot whispered into his ear as they gazed down on their fragile brood. "I wouldn't promise this to you if I wasn't sure, but this man, this Magister, this Warne, and his familiar husband Ranel . . they have promised us sanctuary and I'm as sure as I can be that we'll be safe. We bide here over night, and in the morning . . . safety."

"Safety . . . " Zennor breathed back, and for the first time since he'd nested and laid his eggs, he allowed himself to believe.

(Sorry, bit serious, but in my head Warne and Ranel do indeed retrieve this family and help them to thrive in safety and the meowlets go on to cause havoc at school and university, all the while protected by a very powerful and untouchable patron. As it should be cos they're not wrong, they're just different and the world needs different.)

Sneaky Meri. I like that Warne's is regarded as sanctuary. Considering his in-laws next door, yeah they'll be protected.

You were going to write the part where they arrived and settled in? There might be a bit of predator territory conflict. There might also be visitors are nice but how long will they be here? What if one of the kittens falls for one of the meowlets?
