Jobless in January’s sequel, Something Worth Fighting For, gives the reader what I always beg for with a good story; that ‘take the two main characters and fast forward them in time’ to see if that ‘happily ever after developed’ or was it still there. Mara Ismine takes it one step further, yes the main characters are together but the action starts off with the fatal, “I can’t do this anymore.” I love my HEA in a story. I’ve been in this story’s situation and it didn’t end well, so the watery blinking as the story worked its way to the conclusion is understandable. I also love HEA that follows a wring the reader dry before giving them that HEA. This fiction is not a heavy twisting of the reader until they are sobbing ‘til their heart is numb, it’s a short story sequel, not a novel.
Would I have acted like John? Hmm, yes and no, in that order. I kept asking myself as I read, would I fight for someone who had told me they couldn’t do this anymore. My life story gives answer to that but then my real life set of characters weren’t John and Charlie. I like HEA in the stories I read and I would have given Charlie such a slap, at least mentally, how dare he mess with my HEA. This was a good continuation of Jobless in January, which I loved for John’s character’s growth and HFN ending with possible HEA. Now I need a sequel to the sequel.
