"Dammit Ren, let his nose go!" Drew found himself dithering from foot to foot, unsure how to rectify the unfortunate scene before him. Ren's teeth were small but sharp, and pulling his irate - and lizard shaped - lover from the cat's nose would only cause even more damage.

"He pounced me," Ren's voice was muffled but still obviously angry. "You *know* I hate being pounced!"

"He didn't mean it, he was just saying hello!"

"No one says hello by trapping you under a paw - or before you've had my coffee!"

The unfortunate cat was mewling in distress and starting to yowl deep in his throat. Drew was just glad he'd so far heeded the command to stay still and not move, although the yowl indicated the cat's patience was likely coming to an end. Images of the cat batting with it's paws at the lizard dangling from it's nose, or, worse, just dispatching the pesky thing with an all out head shake, tumbled through Drew's head, increasing his anxiety.

"He's sorry, he didn't mean it! Aren't you Rumpletum? You're sorry, tell him you're sorry!"

"Yes, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, OW, Ren that hurts! Please let go!" Rumpletum responded eagerly, his voice sounding quite nasal as Ren's bite caused his nose to swell.

"Humph!" Ren let go and dropped to the ground, the very image of a wronged and disgruntled lizard. "If you were sorry, you wouldn't have done it in the first place! You know I hate it when you pounce me!" With a stomach churning slither, he curled into human form, still dressed in his striped flannel pajamas and robe. "I'm going to get coffee. Do NOT disturb me."

Drew and Rumpletum watched the salamander stalk away toward the kitchen, newspaper firmly under his arm. Drew turned to Rumpletum apologetically "Uh . . . sorry . . . I didn't think you'd arrive so early . . . "

Rumpletum was busily engaged in licking his paw and swiping it over his poor, injured nose. "You didn't tell him I was coming, did you?"

"Um . . . ," Drew shrugged sheepishly. "I thought it would be a nice surprise??"

(Not my best, and Ren's a salamander not a dragon, but I guess the need for coffee easily transcends species boundaries).

I love how you combined these 2 prompts into one. *grins*
Good thing that Ren isn't a dragon or the world would be one Rumpletum less and that would be an unhappy place.

Ah yes, coffee. And just think, there was a time when there was no coffee to start, (or for that matter any time else in the day. *shudders*

*laughing* Ren being pounced and his angry vengeance. He went out in salamander form to get the paper? What would he have done if he'd forgotten the robe and pajamas and changed to his human form to pick up the paper? Now there would be an interesting sight in more than one way. *imagines naked Ren bending over*

I think Ren was more likely to be wandering outside to catch a bit more sleep in an early morning sunbeam before waking up properly. The offended stalking off for coffee is just so everyone is clear about the injustice that has been done to him. (I would imagine either Drew got the paper, or Rumpletum bought it with him).

Rumpletum is just lucky that Ren was in mini-salamander mode, rather than giant salamander, or his rarely seen more chinese-dragon like form.
