The first one is a perfect representation of Ranel's self-image when he is still young and very silly (HA!)

Oh Ranel. I love the pointy ear tufts but the back is scaly and that tail *sighs* It's more a train than a tail, that for best viewing doesn't stand proudly erect in feline dignity. Cumbersome which I imagine Ranel, as he had to deal with kittens and such, realized that trains are a nuisance and not worth the bother.

"Taste," Ren held out the spoon to Drew as he came out of the dish washing room, wiping his hands dry on a clean towel. Technically, he had helpers to take care of the washing up for him, not to mention commercial dishwashers. But now the he didn't *have* to do it, he found scrubbing a pot or two after a busy service relaxing. Especially when Ren was still in the kitchen using the quiet time to work on one of his bespoke wedding cake orders.

Drew let Ren lift the orange paste laden spoon up to his lips, darting his tongue out to take a small taste. Sweet citrus burst into his mouth. Dang, Ren was good at this - it was like eating sunshine.

"Mmmm, good," Drew leaned over to steal a kiss and share the flavor of the citrus curd with his lover. "New recipe?"

"Yup - same as the raspberry one, just using lemon and orange instead. It's easier to make than the other one, but I wasn't sure it would taste as good. It's not too sweet?" There was an anxious note in Ren's voice. He took his cake making very seriously.

Drew took the spoon from Ren, taking another taste so he could give his reply the proper consideration. The curd was sweet, yes, but that was balanced with the bright bite of tartness from the oranges, and sour from the lemons. Underlying that was a smooth, mellow fullness that spoke of the butter and eggs in the mix. But still . . there was something . . .

"You thickened it with cornflour?"

Ren nodded, looking worried.

"Hmm, makes it taste a bit . . pasty maybe?"

His lover frowned. "Yeah, that's what I thought. The other recipe doesn't have cornflour in it." His brows drew together as he pondered the problem. "Maybe I could reduce the sugar and thicken it by boiling the juice longer . . . or maybe arrowroot . . . "

"Or maybe you could come upstairs and let me warm you up . . . "

Ren raised an eyebrow at that - he knew that Drew knew that nothing was likely to move him from the kitchen when he was experimenting.

"You're cold love, you've been standing here with only the chiller for company for too long." Drew nodded toward Ren's fingers which were exhibiting a distinct blue tinge. Ren's lower body temperature was an advantage when he was baking and decorating - temperature sensitive pastry and frostings did better when handled by someone with cold hands. Unfortunately, Ren's low body temperature also came with a decreased ability to regulate it for himself. He wasn't completely dependent on outside heat sources like a true reptile, but they certainly helped. The evening service had been over two hours now, and the staff had started turning off most of the ovens and stoves an hour before that. And Ren's work station was, out of necessity, in the coolest part of the room. When he was working on a large cake, he worked in a separate room altogether - and got a lot colder.

Ren sighed, seeing the sense in Drew's words. There was also the fact that Drew was Ren's favorite external heat source. "Yeah, you're right. Let me just put this away in the fridge . . . " He grabbed the bowl of sub standard (in Ren's opinion) curd. Drew reached out and put a hand on his wrist to stop him. "Bring it up with you."

"Oh? But . . . "

Drew grinned. "I said it was a bit pasty. I didn't say it was *bad*."

Oooooooooooh. Saw this but didn't get a chance til now.
*sloooooooow smile* So sweet and now I want to try some of your curd especially since I know this is based of real life food.

If the curd is chilled does he want to put it on an already too cool Ren? This is where hot fudge for drizzling is nice.
But citrus is one of my favorite flavors so it would probably be the orange/lemon curd I'd be stealing the bowl of.
