‘He’s not a child anymore,’ was patiently thought.
‘I know that. Let him make his own choices,’ was thought back.

“Okay, I can hear you both. You’d think being joined you could think a bit more quietly.” Aldus looked at his parental unit, his mother and his much smaller absorbed parasitic father; his forced adoption had been a peace exchange of children between his adoptive people and his, the encroaching aliens.

Aldus considered the large female who wanted him. He’d touched minds with her and her male previously and liked them. Nodding finally, he approached her pouch, his new home.

I'm confused and a little scared to ask!

Aldus is adopted by a people that are much like the deep sea Angler Fish, where it's difficult to find a mate so when a male and female find each other the male embeds himself permanently into the female's body, there to fertilize their young when needed. I doubt they know how he does that fertilizing but I could see it where he releases sperm from his site and it travels through the female's body to where it needs to be?
Now think of it like an Angler Fish crossed with a kangaroo and in this case the male, or in this case plural males Aldus to be included, embeds inside the female's pouch.

If you think any human would willingly give up their child to cement a peace treaty,as a kind of hostage for the human's good behavior.... Imagine there was some 'for the greater good' happening but tell that to the parents of a child being given to aliens with a culture like Aldus' paired parental unit.

Aldus' good fortune that his adoptive family is a loving one, protective and letting him make his own decision about mating with an established paired unit that will include him into a tripled unit. What female wouldn't like to have 2 males to make babies with? Babies that might make interesting children if Aldus can successfully breed with his female.

I got the parasitical mating I was thinking bugs couln't rem the fish nad you being the author my mind supplied spiders!!

Got the peace treaty - made me think of Torchwood about the time I gave up on it.

But you lost me when he decided to join them, I read it that he was joining the mating of his parental unit?
Ignoring aliens and adoption it's incestuous. Euw!

Nope nope nope. He's not joining with his parental unit. Another female-male unit. Obviously I needed many more than 100 words.
