We got snow.
We got a lot of snow.
This may not be much for most of you *looks at siblings who live in the frozen north* or indeed for those others of you who likewise are enjoying?? the wonderful (isn't it lovely, beautiful even) snowy whiteness. Those of you who don't normally get snow in quantity will understand in your also being blessed this winter.
We broke a record for snow fall in a 24 hour period and second snowiest winter since the 17.6" of 77-78 since record in the dfw area.
We had 12.5" in 24 hours, they are saying. I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
Today the school district that I work for decided not to commit the bad judgement that was Thursday and cancelled school. The long lists of students who didn't exercise bad judgement and come to school yesterday might have something to do with that. Also the list of teachers who live out of town and didn't show up for classes which resulted in at least one school having to call the police due to a massive snowball fight involving they think 200+ students and no instructional personnel present devolving into a fracas where a student went to the hospital.
It's a good good thing I didn't need to go to work as at midnight we lost power in an all electric house. We were one household of 180,000. 12 hours later after a much blanketed sleep we are once more blessed with that wonder of modern invention, electricity. I would kiss it but the furnace is busy right now and I don't want to distract it. Also.. COMPUTER and TV and LIGHT and MICROWAVE. Hot water heater is working on the part of it's share.
Thank you electricity for coming back.

Date: 2010-02-12 10:51 pm (UTC)There was other footage that I saw of the fight in progress. A news crew were there for some other reason (sounds suspicious doesn't it)and caught it. They interviewed kids and even said they tried to break it up but think that didn't go well. Notice though that in none of the footage were they aiming at the vehicles' windows.
Why the school didn't cancel school is beyond me. You'd think they'd think. Bet the admins are catching Hell.
Why aren't you getting your snow? Can you come and get it? PLEEEEASE.
We don't do this stuff here in quantity like this.
Trees + snow + powerlines are not a good combination. Our trees don't know what to do with it other then break onto powerlines.

Date: 2010-02-13 12:47 am (UTC)I would have said that I'd take a power outage due to snow better because you can always put more clothes on. *laughs* Am rethinking that. Really, I'm a delicate little flower who wants to be comforatable all the time. *sighs*
Totally understand the fear about turning a computer back on when you've had one power outage. Battery backup is a nice thing to have.

Date: 2010-02-13 05:45 pm (UTC)Rescue mission.. oh, Dale. *grabs you and stuffs you under my sweatshirt for warmth. pets the wiggling lump* Are you shivering under there?
Unless you know how to fix powerlines you couldn't do anything if you did get here, well except cuddle to stay warm which would have been very welcome. Flights were cancelled.
There's this basketball thing happening, there's Comicon happening, there's no room at the inns that have power to relocate to.
With the ice they were saying was going to form on the roads from when the snow melts.. not safe. *kiss*
There's a.. um dove that has been sent out from AZ that is suppose to arrive here sometime today.
NOAA didn't send him. He's driving here for hunting wild pig further down south but will stop to see the kids.
So much fun.
