ALERT
The bright object in the sky is called the 'sun'....do not be alarmed but do not look directly at it

Okay that's going to last all of hmm *looks at sky* Rain is predicted to be in my area in less than 1 hour.
There's a dam south of Dallas that they are worried will go. It's already breached and they're pumping to relieve the pressure. That seems to have helped but until when? There's more rain predicted again in a large way Friday into Saturday.

My parents when they bought this house insured it was high ground that even if our dam broke wouldn't flood the house. It's a pain in the winter because the driveway is so steep if it ices but right now... thanks Mom and Dad.

Yikes, you're in the middle of that? I guess I didn't realize that's where you lived. We're seeing mostly Houston on the news, but I guess Dallas/FW is getting it too as is Austin. That's a huge area.

Most of Texas is under Flood watch/warning. The ground is saturated.
The dam near me is almost 9 ft over 100% full. As a friend in another country said, We here are getting the next 5 years worth of water all at once. We were in drought before.

Haven't heard anything about problems with our dam, not like the one south of Dallas. And though there is flooding in this area it depends where you are and where the water drains or can drain away to.

I'll send good thoughts your way regarding the dam. It's got to hold up. And I'll try not to think of worst cases. You do have an emergency preparedness kit, right, with enough food to lat until the water recedes/can be cooked without electricity?

On a brighter note, I read this and thought of you. http://the-toast.net/2015/05/19/we-have-got-to-talk-about-how-messed-up-turtle-penises-are/ read the comments. Dueling worms, alligators, snakes... nature is interesting.

Thank You for the good thoughts.
*grins* I think our dam is doing it's damn business correctly. There's a conservation pool and then a flood pool. Other places :( not so happy.
Have got bottled water and recently went to grocery store. But my parents did buy this place with an eye to if the dam should fail this is a good place.

Saw something like this at the Phoenix Zoo. They had an round outdoor short walled enclosure that had many kinds of tortoises in it. There was a much larger tortoise in the same position as the link shows atop a smaller tortoise. He'd surge forward and groan then do it again. There were children around. It was one of those times that you want to tell the tortoises to get a room and it had better be consentual because the smaller one didn't look like it was having a good time.

The link.... the tortoise sounds like a duck.

Google reassures me that they think it'll hold now?
Hope that's true.

Stock up and stay safe Charis.
