Carter stopped with no thought of strategies, leaning tiredly against the nearest old tree and staring up the path yet untravelled. Heavy fog obscured whatever lay ahead, murky as his future. The trees themselves reached over the path tangling with their neighbours, sheltering this lonely path, causing an eerie space. Sound didn't seem to penetrate off this path could be any reality, any range of technology or war. Here there was endless silence, leaves rustling above lent more to atmosphere than sound.

A dark shape started to appear centre of the path, .........the rest is HERE

Quinn stuck his head into the room and reminded Carter that today should be the day for their lovers to return. He’d told him, just before running off with a cheeky grin, and seen Carter explode into a flurry of activity.

The mist rose around him, first from the night’s rain sodden fields’ blanketing and then the enclosed lane of the forest. It was a chill moisture that clung and maybe he could have stayed by the heat of the hearth where he would ready a warm bath for William. A bath soon to be followed by an even warmer homecoming beneath soft blankets. He scrunched his face but then everybody would be wanting to add their welcoming joy at William and John’s return and that bath and bed would be long delayed. Neither Carter or he wanted that and so Quinn found himself sprinting into the mist in search of a good place to waylay his William preferably to a place where the ground was still dry with the cushioning of moss.

Two shapes formed from the mist before him and Quinn stopped, panting, trying to puzzle out which was his.
“William?”

One of the figures opened wide his arms and Quinn launched himself forward into them.

“You did not think to wait back to where there would be heat and a soft bed, love?”

“Like I could wait that long for you,” Quinn rebuked laughing. “I left water heating over the hearth’s fire and the tub half filled ready to receive you in it but did you really believe I could delay my welcoming you home while others pulled at you with their greetings?”

Warm arms held him close, “No, I do not think I would like that as well as this, love,” was whispered to his ear.

Rough laughter and a light blow on William’s back announced that John would leave them to their loving making.

Mist carries sound well and it wasn’t much later that the mist echoed with the growled sounds of two people enjoying each other. Quinn snickered, “I believe Carter found Sir John.”

“And how do you know that that’s not an echo of our own rutting?” William’s amused voice asked smoothing a hand down a bare flank.

Carter, feigned surprise and smiled, “Do you not hear the clank of Sir John’s armor? I, my lord, rode quietly upon your lap.”

“Quietly? My love you are not quiet during fucking.” William grinned, “You are all giving commands and demanding and I like it so. But if I had not stopped your mouth with my kisses, I’d not have heard if John had called in need of my help.”

Forgetting himself and striking William on an armor clad shoulder, Quinn gave out an ‘ow’ to William’s snickering tsking. “Like Sir John would need or want your help with what he is doing.”

“Well, he might,” William grinned, “but it seems as if he’s riding well enough without my helping.”

William groaned. Quinn had tightened around him and in preparing for another ride. He hoped that someone refreshed the water no doubt bubbling away over the hearth’s fire.

“Stop worrying, I left instructions that if I wasn’t back soon enough for Adelaide to check and replenish the water on the hearth,” Quinn moaned.

Smart move on Quinn's part, but shelling William of his armor might be more comfortable for the both of them.

I'm sure they'll be noisy enough when they get home that she won't have to peek in to see if she needs to add more water.

Ah but they would need to put the armor back on before going back which is not pleasant after you've had it off. And there might yet be bandits about in the mist which armor would be better to have on. William, John and their lovers are in sexual need but not addled.
