First: Maybe it'd be better with a different background, that one is just icky. Second: Nope, again way to '80s and too 'stylish', and I usually like jewel-tones. If I'm making a quilt I want it so that it looks good 20, 50 years from now. Now if you're just looking at the pattern and not the colour choices, it could be interesting. Third: A bit boring, but probably a good way to start quilting.
*smiles* I thought the second one was styled in the manner of Piet Mondrian but the white got lost.
The third is very easy and would probably be restful for a quilt. And the colors are soothingly upbeat. So nursing home or hotel.
That first one was interesting but bothered me in that the brighter fabric patterns seemed to float above the background. It's the same as with the illusion quilt. They're fun to look at but probably hard to live with on your bed.
I see what you mean. I might actually like the quilt better if they used white instead of that floral pattern. Or stuck with a simpler colour scheme a la Piet Mondrian.
It took an awful lot of Art History class to appreciate Mondrian. I think it's worn off. *grins* Mondrian is too stark for me. I'd need those florals but I'm getting the impression *cough cough* through this discussion that yes, classic patterns... they last and are easier to live with. Will have to kidnap my daughter and take her to a fabric store. She has an eye for choosing colors that work well together... now if I can just settle on which pattern I want to try first.
I was told by pretty much every person who quilts to stick with a relatively easy pattern the first time. Mainly because you wanna make sure you actually finish the quilt. If your very first attempt is very complex and you end up not really enjoying the process, the quilt will probably never get finished. But, if the pattern is relatively easy, even if you end up not having fun, you're still likely to finish it just because.
In some things I'm OCD. The Biscuit Quilt I did for my sister had me staying up nights until the early hours sewing and brought in my then m-i-l who volunteered to help (bless her). If I can figure out a way to organize it, then it happens. It's that first stitching that does it. But I have to decide on what pattern and who for first. Heaven forbid I keep one of these.
*grins* Jelly Rolls are pre-cut strips of fabric that are supposed to harmonize with each other or some person who makes the decision thinks that will sell. The strips are placed as layers and are rolled up together into one about 5" wide roll. More probably they've layered the fabric, rolled it and then cut it like you would when making a jelly roll. Hence the name.
The 3rd one is made from a jelly roll. Was going to say my Mom would like it but she likes blues. *sighs*

Makes me think Mondrian, can't decide if the patterned fabric works or not.
Third one would be better with more colour variance, some of those blend too much to have the stripes show.
