Fear the Luddite for IM me
Aug. 29th, 2009 09:05 pmAlright, I know that live journal has IM but how does one get onto to it?
Mobile (this is phone, Yes?) is tempting but it's faster to type then to key on those tiny little spots and my cell is prepaid.
IM through Yahoo is in my 'reeeeeeeal for real' name. *smile* That makes me altogether tooo findable.

Date: 2009-08-30 02:12 am (UTC)I won't touch it. I already have like five different IM providers and I soooo do not need another. Although, if it allows me to talk to people on my LJ... NO! BAD THOUGHTS!!!
Why do you do this to me? D8
Lud-Dite lud-Dite ... lud- DITE, lud- DITE Lud-DITE
Date: 2009-08-30 02:28 am (UTC)I need to download a client? Is Yahoo a client but not one recognized by lj?
They promise that all your buddies on live journal with IM accounts will automatically be listed with their profile icon. So tempting.
So is saying (insert bad word here) and just throwing one's hands up in the air.
I do this because I LIKE you. *giggles* And someone had to do it.
Re: Lud-Dite lud-Dite ... lud- DITE, lud- DITE Lud-DITE
Date: 2009-08-30 02:38 am (UTC)The TL;DR version (copypasta'd from the FAQ page): "Unfortunately, some other Instant Messaging services (such as AIM, Yahoo! IM, and Windows Live Messenger) prohibit LJ Talk users from communicating with their users. Likewise, their official clients offer no way for you to connect to LJ Talk. However, many third-party IM clients allow you to connect to multiple services at once; to see if your client supports this, refer to its documentation or help files.
This makes me unhappy. >(

Date: 2009-08-30 03:05 am (UTC)I.... missed that part. EXCREMENT. Thank you for finding it for me.
I was wandering around looking at Yahoo!IM. Wandering being the word for it. The bread crumbs were eaten by mice. Malicious giggling mice.
Plain speak; this means that Yahoo!IM doesn't work with LJ Talk. If I download one of the clients will I then be able to use the LJ Talk?
*SIGH* Think I'll regress to my crayons.
Re: Lud-Dite lud-Dite ... lud- DITE, lud- DITE Lud-DITE
Date: 2009-08-30 05:09 pm (UTC)I dunno. I use pidgin for Linux, which lets me use all my messengers on one platform - and thus, never thought to use the LJ talk. You could try meebo, which is browser-based but does the same thing (and I think, may be compatible with LJtalk/Jabber? Yeah, it is.)
Thing is, I don't have my AIM(s)/MSN/Yahoo info on my LJ, so tell me if/how/when it works and I'll give you one of them or something. Yeah, I dunno. XD

Re: Lud-Dite lud-Dite ... lud- DITE, lud- DITE Lud-DITE
Date: 2009-08-30 08:41 pm (UTC)ACTUALLY!!!! I just tried the jabber thing on meebo and IT WORKS!!! Just choose Jabber on the menu of servers, type in "charisstoma@livejournal.com" and then your password (For your LJ) and it'll sign you on. *amazed*

Date: 2009-08-30 08:10 am (UTC)Some of my old chatting friends used Trillian for its multi-platform capabilities, but I vaguely remember gripes about it causing problems with other things. That was a few years ago, though, so they might've worked out the glitches by now.
I've never tried the LJ chat thing and don't particularly want to. I'm with

Chrome is Google Chrome? I have that downloaded onto my desktop.
If you hear the Internet crash and burning.. pay no attention to who the culprit is, I want to remain anonymous which *sigh* is why this whole thing came up in the first place.

Date: 2009-08-30 08:34 pm (UTC)I'll try to ignore the internet crashing, though, just for you. [grin] Although if the temperature here goes up one more tick I'll have to log off anyway so I'll miss all the excitement. If you're going to do something spectacular, you've probably got about another hour or so. ;D

Date: 2009-08-30 09:05 pm (UTC)Only one hour or so.. that doesn't allow much time for them to cleanup the mess I'm about to make.
Gmail account set up. YAY. Sent an e-mail to myself and it still had my full name there for god and everyone, well God would know anyway.
*snickers* I have sooooo many clones of myself out there now. *snort*

Date: 2009-08-30 09:11 pm (UTC)Hey, I have seven LJs, LOL! Although I'll admit I've only posted in... three of them within the last year. For a while there I was using them all, though. :D Plus an IJ and four JFs. Just trying to remember all the passwords! O_O
Heh.
Have fun!
