T’was a bad thing he’d done, creeping into Oak’s bower to steal his acorns. Maple smiled, patting them gently in their velvety bag. There were sleepy little squeaks that quieted into tiny muttering purrs when he just held them close.

“Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of you until Oak tracks us down.”

“Ahem,” brought an amusing eep from Maple, “if you’d wanted to play with my nuts, you could have just asked. You could even help me put them safely to bed,” was offered with sly suggestion.

“How…”

“Let’s say it was a clever trap and I caught you.”
