Working title: Meri’s mpreg familiar tale

It was so cliché, go to a party, well crash one really, sample the food that some prankster had augmented with catnip and end up pregnant. He didn’t even remember much about the other guy, other than he knew how to use his tongue really well and was very entertaining. Torry looked around the forest of trees near the campus and found a likely looking rock to perch on to consider his fate.

‘Here I am, preggers, in my second year at the academy, and a not so impressive tabby familiar. Who will want me and how am I going to make my way in the world and take care of kittens.’ He mentally scratched out ‘kittens’ and substituted ‘kitten’. ‘Please let it only be one,’ and reached down to lick his belly.

He hadn’t even considered he could be pregnant until the tuna at lunch turned his stomach. Part of him still hoped it was a fur ball and then groaned as his mind supplied, a cute little fur ball. They provided early pregnancy test kits at the academy clinic but then they had to inform people and before you knew it it was, Hector Smith was preggers, all over the school. His eyes widened in horror, would they take away his hardship scholarship? Tears blurred his eyes, he had worked so hard to earn that scholarship, first in his class at the familiar home able to change into his human form at will. They’d said he’d done it as a kitten before he’d even opened his eyes and that’s how they knew he was a familiar and not a foundling kitten deserted by his mother on the doorstep of a vet’s office. But to be able to change to human as he wanted at such an early age had made them think that great things could be expected of him. Except that seemed to be it, all he could do magic wise though he could recite all the incantations perfectly from memory and he was told he ranked high on his tests. Frowning, he should rank high, he’d spent hours studying and reading outside the required materials to understand what was being taught better. They called it studying in depth and praised him for his initiative. Fat lot of good it was going to do him with a kitten to take care of and he gave another lick of apology to his belly.

“Well, you aren’t going to go away just because you’re inconvenient and there’s special vitamins that I’ll need to make sure that you are healthy, so,” he sighed, “we should get ourselves to the clinic and have that test done to document that you are there and get that health care. They should keep me at least to the end of term since you won’t be showing yet. Right.” He stood and stretched, “I’ve time to get to the clinic and then study for the exam on Thursday.”

“Congratulations,” said the clinician, “you’re pregnant.” She smiled sympathetically at him, “Not quite what you wanted to hear, is it? The doctor will want to examine you and maybe do an ultrasound to see how far along you are and how many kittens you’re carrying so we know what to expect. You’ll have to be in your familiar form for that of course, since it’s so early in your pregnancy. Are you able to change for me?” Suddenly Torry was a feline sitting on the chair next to her desk. “Oh.” She said in surprise and smiled at him, “Yes, I guess you can. If you’ll come this way please, we’ll get you right into see the doctor now. We’re having a light day today.”

Torry padded cautiously into the exam room, his fur only slight fluffed out, his every nerve on alert.

From behind him he heard a man say, “Hello, I’m Dr. Mraz. You seem like you might be able to jump up onto the table by yourself but for safety purposes we prefer to lift you up.” Strong hands grasped him firmly under his front legs and behind his back bringing him up onto the smooth paper sheet on the exam table. Kind fatherly brown eyes looked him over. “Your fur is in excellent condition, well groomed and healthy. Whoever is inside you is lucky to have such good care being taken of them even before they’re born.” Dr, Mraz had a thing in his hand that looked a bit like a very thick pen. “Now if you could lay down on your back my assistant, Julie, will spritz you down with warm water on your tummy and put a thin plastic sheet over that area. Then she’ll squirt some cold slimy stuff on the sheet and we’ll have a peek inside. This won’t take long and if you want to watch on the monitor, just crane your neck to the left.”

Everything happened like the doctor said and Torry only startled a bit when the water first dampened his fur on his tummy. He tried to remain still but it was totally beyond him from purring when he saw the small blinking spot in the middle of the confusing mess of what his insides looked like. The probe moved to see from different angles but there was still only one little tiny pulsing thing visible.

“I’d say there’s only one small person in there. Got a nice strong heartbeat going too. Seems consistent in size for the date of conception you gave us. You should easily make it through to the middle of the next semester and have this little one for the holiday break with enough time to settle into a schedule that will allow you to continue classes when the break is over.” With a smile and a wiggle of Torry’s back paw, “Go get your clothes back on and Julie and you will confer on the date and time for your next pre-natal appointment. I’ll get your first week’s worth of pre-natal vitamins ready and the prescription emailed over to the student pharmacy so you obtain more without having to come in all the time and then we can talk about anything you need answered.”

Torry changed to human and started weeping, one hand to his face and the other cupping over where he thought that little heart blinked. “Shhh. It’s alright. Everything’s going to be alright. You’ll see and probability is that whoever the father is, considering where you were, they’re someone strongly magical which bodes well for your kitten’s possible abilities. The kitten will have the best environment to grow up in for their early years. The academy believes in caring for their students. There’s a crèche on campus to watch and care for your child while you’re in your classes and help providing for whatever your baby needs. Now you go get your clothing on and make your next appointment and Julie will bring you back to my office when you’re ready.”

You haven't taken to kicking in your sleep yet if woken up? *innocent eyes*

Mr. Meep has a sometime job being musical? *smiles* This is good if he's good enough to get paid or even good enough that it makes him feel good.

I hate those nights that are taking time out of trying to get to sleep with 'what time is it now'
When's your appt with specialist?
Midsommer *cooes* Love Midsommer. Mysteries, right?

You'd be surprised by how good medicines like Benadryl are for helping get you to sleep. They even have a version of NyQuil that they've given up saying it's good for helping with colds and flu. It's called ZzzQuil. http://zzzquil.com/ *GRINS* It's the same active ingredient as Benadryl (2 pills worth) diphena-something *laughing*

LMAO excuse me! LMAO-some more. NO!!!!!
Oh he'd like too and he can play guitar...
No he went to see Paul Weller. I was invited but um. no thanks.

Make sure it's not the non-drowsy variety of Benadryl if you can get it.

And ask the pharmacist about interactions with your pain medication. If you can't have alcohol with your pain meds then this might not be good for using Benadryl either.

Over the counter pain meds - Paracetmol mostly and Co-codomol which I was advised to get by the dentist when I had pain, I had some left and use sparingly (also over the counter)

Only got one prescription from doctor, helpful like that.

Still ask pharmacist about interactions and advisability.

That kind of thing killed Heath Ledger.

Have you seen the new Midsommer Murders? With the new Barnaby cousin? We just watched our first (on DVD) and the rest of the set is sitting there unwatched. The show was good. The Barnaby acceptable. The plot fine (other than the son starting to talk again after his father is arrested would have made more sense if the father had killed the mother all those years ago when the boy quit talking).

The problem is Jones. Or rather his back story. Maybe Meep would remember better, but wasn't Jones from Wales? Didn't the other Barnaby take him back to Wales to solve a murder or something? But in the latest one, his granny knew all about this local family and their history. Was his granny not from Wales?

My husband says he's just going to have to pretend that this is a different character with the same name, played by the same actor. Because this new Jones's family is local.

And on the medicine front we by the generic 'sleep aid' rather than Benadryl or any of its copies, because the ingredient is the same, in the same dose, but the 'sleep aid' is the cheapest per pill by far.

Alright that was mean.

Local station is showing the older series broadcasts.
However the public library has seasons 22 and 23.

*grins* I buy the generic Benadryl too. I'm using it to hold down my allergies. Am really hating the itchy watery eyes this allergy season is giving me. Guess it's better than the vertigo I've had once this year.

Found some and then the word count went up. Edited.
Have no idea where this is going and Meri has looked today.

'Course I told her the truth about Texas making constitutionally illegal for same sex marriage and our 'bless his heart' governor sending 1000 National Guardsmen to the border to prevent illegal aliens, most of which are kids and families, from crossing into Texas. This is not the time to come to Texas, we're into our 100 degree weather, luckily the humidity has come down from 70+% but it's now 1:14 am and the temp is 81.2F or 27C and the humidity is 63%. If she comes here she needs to come in the late Fall or early Spring when it's livable.

Meri's probably busy plotting a way into Texas, she's firey she'll find a way ;)

Would this confetti be inappropriate?

Those temps!
I'd melt :(

We're lucky there are people whose power cut out. The news was covering it. 91 degrees inside the apartments and they say if you're out in the full sun it feels like 115. How they're not dying I do not know.

No that confetti isn't inappropriate. *laughing* When my Librarian's daughter was having her buy things for the bridal shower they had confetti like that for sale as well as straws and a few other novelties.

I hope she's not trying to sneak in through the Mexico border. There are rabid crazy Texans down there who have formed their own militia to prevent aliens from entering. They don't care if they're are kids or families. It has nothing to do with terrorist entry prevention or drugs for them.

That's extreme weather.

Awwww ;)

Wait MERI IS AN ALIEN why did I not know this?!?!?!
No wonder she likes probing and mpreg...

Scary, I don't know how people can live with themselves and do that.

Um, I didn't realise that a pregnant familiar would garner such enthusiasm from you and meep.... well maybe meep because she's been drawn into writing some too. *GRINS*

Haven't heard anything from Meri yet. *cringes* She's the one requesting.

Am going to resort to a Texanism - Y'all didn't like the vampire stories as much as this. Other than vampires vs. familiars the vampire one didn't have mpreg. hmmm I have corrupted you all! *evil cackling*

*grins* Thank You.

Interested to see where this goes. He (and the baby) will get a happy ending, but with who? The lover? The doctor? Someone we haven't met yet, who is quite willing to take on a little familiar if he can have the big one he's longed for from afar?

So Torry is sitting there naked on the exam table, weeping? Maybe I should be laying bets on the doctor.

At first I thought Torry was the one saying the last paragraph soothing himself and while by soothing his baby (as the action was his). But it was the Doctor?

You, Meri, Meep, Dyo and I will have to travel this road together. There's only a vague idea where it's going.

No not the doctor. *grins* The doctor is off-limits. Everyone should have someone they can trust that doesn't involve sex, just loving TLC when it's needed.

Good. I'm glad the doctors off limits. If would feel icky to me, like Torry was being taken advantage of.

What about some kindly person helps him and and he starts to fall for them, then it's revealed that the helpful person was also the guy at the party? But the love interests all have to show up soon.
