“You are an amazing donor. Your body’s blood regenerative abilities …” Sonya held up the lab results from the Medical Clinic. “By yourself you could feed one of us every day without any difficulties.” She frowned, “This might be a problem for your co-consort. The medical condition you have makes you need to donate your blood for your health to not deteriorate. It might be better if you did freelance for our Blood Clinic.”

“I could still donate at the Dr. Gordon’s clinic on the days Connell didn’t feed from me,” Everett suggested. “Maybe I’ll even out on my production and I’m just responding to being drained,” he added hopefully. “I mean look how many days it took me to recover from when Connell delivered me here.”

“Dr. Gordon was requesting fairly large blood amounts from you for testing. That is part of the consort instruction program, close monitoring of RBC levels so that your consort knows what you are capable of under stress without his interaction.” She pulled a moue, “In your case it wasn’t strictly necessary but those are the rules.”

He looked up at her worriedly, “You are thinking that my becoming a co-consort will harm Connell and Stephen’s relationship.”

“That is out of your hands unless you decide to protest and select a different consort from Connell. How much do you love Connell and Stephen? Enough to let them go?” Sonya asked smoothly.

“I need to talk to Connell,” Everett said. “I need to know.” He felt tears burn in his eyes. Even Warren would be off limits. Warren loved Vlad and he was a decent guy on his own. He’d been kind and thoroughly attended to making Everett’s experience pleasurable. He could see why Stephen didn’t mind playing with Warren and Vlad.

Stephen had been so elated, when Everett called, anticipating the ceremony that he would attend with Connell for Everett’s Union into their family. He’d tried to bring up Vlad’s ability to somehow interfere and Stephen had outright laughed with delight that Vlad wanted Everett for Warren. “More fun when all of us play together,” had been Stephen’s take on it. Everett’s, “but I think he can work magicks to get what he wants,” had been discounted as Vlad wouldn’t do anything that would hurt Connell or himself. At the time he’d taken solace that if Vlad fixed things so that Warren was his consort, that at least he’d still get to see and love occasionally with Connell and Stephen. Now maybe even that might be denied to him.

So he needed to talk to Connell. But that was more difficult to do than he thought. Even a phone call message didn’t bring a return call. Frustrated he stomped around the Donation Clinic swearing under his breath.

“You’re just working yourself up and making your blood useless for feeding on,” Sonya told him patting the cushion of the sofa where she lounged. “Some people consider it bad luck to see or interact with their consort before the Union Ceremony after the sequestering,” she shrugged, “Connell could be one of them. That might explain why Stephen isn’t answering your calls too.”

Suspiciously he looked at her, “Did Connell get my results from Dr. Gordon’s Clinic too?”

“He’s the one who sent me the results. You’re his responsibility. I imagine he sent off the results to the Council as well.”

Dejection flooded him in a wave travelling down his body and he slumped down onto the sofa. It was a nice sofa, leather dyed a pleasing shade of dark walnut and polished so it gleamed softly in the light but it could have been coarse burlap for all it mattered to him.

“He’s looked on what it would do to his relationship with Stephen. He doesn’t want me.”

Sonya patted him, “This is what is known as pre-Union jitters. Just go along one step in front of the other and ask yourself do you love him enough to let him make the decisions for what he thinks is best. If he decides what you are worrying about him deciding then he won’t show up and the Council members will not pressure you to take another. They may suggest you experiment with others to see if you could love someone else and be loved by them. You are terribly easy to love.” She sighed, “Even me, though you really do not appeal to my gender sensibilities.”

“One foot in front of the other, I can do that … maybe.” He exploded, “But this is my life. It is so unfair that he will not give me some inkling what the hell is going on in his mind.”

“Yes. Yes, men are all inconsiderate boors and you aren’t one yourself.”

“Don’t try to make me feel better. I don’t want to.”

“What do you want to do?”

Crossing his arms and slumping lower, glowering at the blank screen of the flat-screen, “Sulk,” Everett replied.

Sonya pressed the button on the remote, “Well while you do I’m going to watch the first episode of the second season of Star Trek. I’ve finally reached ‘Amok Time.’”

“Perfect, just perfect.” Everett agreed grumpily. “I can practice my koon-ut-kal-if-fee response.”

Sonya told him to stop when they got to the part where T’Pring gave her kal-if-fee line to the ‘marriage or challenge’ ritual. He was being distracting and her fangs were down in anticipation of the challenge combat scenes. Yes, he really did believe that Sonya would find a copy of T’Pring in her marriage attire. He wondered if he should remind her, as she had him, that it wasn’t real no matter how hard either of them wished it was. He knew all about it, Spock had been his first crush. He and Sonya could each have one of the ill fated marital party and run away with them and McCoy would fix his little blood problem. His loud heavy sigh earned him a swatting motion and hissing from Sonya, her eyes rapt on the Spock/Kirk action.

I've definitely skipped a bit because I read the last one thinking 'whose Vlad?'... hmmm.

Impressed how long this fic is getting, how many words all together now? Thought about making it a novella and submitting it somewhere?

Vlad is Warren's sneaky, snarky, cute, manipulative, adorable?, consort who wants Everett to join his family, instead of Connell's; even if Warren and Connell are good friends and, they and their respective consorts play together from time to time.

Running Total on this is now up to O_0 27104.
Think this is nearing an end......

I've been posting this thing 'public'. Don't know if anyone would touch it.

Seems a lot of 'free online' fics have now been pulled and published, not all with changes being made. Think about it!
