“Alright. You’ve been with a female,” Sonya pointed at herself, “now you just need to have a date with a male. I can, for want of a better word, advertize that there is a male donor date available through normal procedures or, if you have another choice, not Connell, I can contact that individual to place your request.”
“Can I see what they look like before I commit to being with them? How did Connell get chosen as my diner?”
“Luck and he was next on the roster, plus he’s good with the nervous donors, gentle. Yes, I can provide photographs.”
“So if Connell hadn’t been available, who would I have been with?”
“Warren.”
“Warren, as in ‘We’re worried about not hearing from you,’ Warren? As in pointing out the benefits of donor freelancing?”
Sonya smiled her fangs glistening, “Ironic isn’t it. He also is consorted and uses our facilities for those meals that would over stress his consort's abilities, when he should not feed from him.” She spread her fingers flat on the small table, “Having a freelance donor like you would ease many of our diners’ needs.”
“What do your diners do if there’s not enough donors, hypothetically of course?”
“We control the blood banks. Blood has an expiration date and just before its expiration we provide for those who need it but,” she paused, “hypothetically, many free range.”
Everett arched his brows, “hunt like in the vampire movies?”
“We do not call ourselves that!”
“Sorry.” He regarded her fingers, “hunt in the same way as is portrayed in the horror movies?
She shook her head at him but gave a closed mouth smile, “All donors, whether they know what’s happening or not, are fed from consensually. There is a department that is responsible for investigating any suspicious reports of exsanguinations or rape with blood loss. The consequences for those caught …” she shuddered. “Warren works in that department which means he has a vested interest in you entering into the donor pool. He’s seen what happens as a result of desperation for a fully flavored meal. Think of it like being fed chicken when there’s steak out there.”
“Not the best analogy right now. I’m getting sick of eating steak.”
Sonya frowned at him, “It’s good for you.”
“Well don’t blame me if I run away to a Kentucky Fried Chicken or Taco Cabana some morning when you’re sleeping.” His mouth starting watering, “or a Pizza Hut.” His eyes closed, “They’ve got a Veggie Pizza with tomatoes, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, olives, two cheeses and Parmesan Romano sauce that is to die for.”
“That will not bulk up your RBC,” she glared at him, “and don’t even try it. I’m responsible for keeping you in safe during your Sequestering.”
“You want me to stay inside like a good little consort-to-be, then order me a Veggie Pizza.”
“With ground beef,” she said through her teeth.
Giving her a sunny smile Everett nodded, “Deal.”
“Connell needs to spank you … often.”
Batting his eyes innocently, “but he does,” Everett said and smiled, “often.”
“You’re a brat.”
“Don’t make me whine at you.”
“An obnoxious, irritating brat,” was said with severe eyes that twinkled with amusement. As Everett began to theatrically whine, she pulled out her cell phone, “I’m ordering you your pizza. Stop.”
Coming around behind her, he looped his arms around her neck, “You are the bestest non-vampire in the whole world,” and snickered before kissing her cheek when she growled at him.
“Nathan, hello. Could you send me a … I can’t believe I’m doing this, a Veggie Pizza and add ground beef to it.” Everett interrupted calling over her words, “cooked ground beef.” Saying, “Yes, yes,” to Everett, and into the phone, “cooked ground beef. I CAN hear you laughing Nathan. I’ve got a heathen here.” Glancing up at Everett, “Yes, he’s the one in Sequestering. No, you can’t have a bite for the price of a pizza though I will tell him you’re interested. Thank you, Nathan. Good bye.”
She turned to Everett, “Nathan is young. Be good. And if you want to offer him a nibble from your arm, cover the veins on your wrist on that arm with your hand so he doesn’t think it’s an offer of more. He’s into the Goth scene and used to vampire want-a-bes letting him graze on them at the clubs.”
“He doesn’t have anything contagious, does he, feeding so indiscriminately?”
“You have been reading the manual?” she asked him. “That’s at the beginning in the second chapter.”
“It said,” he quoted, “ ‘blood fed from a previous donor will not cause infection to anyone fed on thereafter as long as there is no active blood transmission.’ But what about if he doesn’t swallow between feedings?”
“I assure you he will have swallowed if only because he’ll have been drooling at the thought of you. It is acceptable to allow a nibble under conditions like this as long as your consort has not forbidden it.”
“Yeah yeah, the chapter under Etiquette, like Connell would let me if he knew, but I’m in Sequestering so I’m supposed to be learning and trying new things.”
“Yes, you are.”
“Okay, just stay close?”
“I’ll be right there. No one is going to make you into Take Out.”

Date: 2014-07-08 01:43 pm (UTC)You shouldn't put ideas like that in my head. Maybe Everett will be convinced that he must do for the common good and freelance then run away because he's miserable.
You like Nathan? Nathan might decide to settle down with his one true yummy love found like Cinderella when he brings a pizza to the donation clinic. What better way is there to meet many people to find that 'special' one?
