My mother had me pass along the name Nathaniel John to my daughter as a possible for the little in-process person if male. As I pointed out to her and as you did, Nate. It would be so much easier for small inexperienced fingers to write.
Think they have a friend who's named that, godfather material *grins* maybe?

Nate seems so 'western cowboy'. I wasn't sure if you'd like it in the diminutive form.

Long names are so formal though, biblical. Nate is friendlier. I'll name him Nate and he can be full-named at some point ;)
But then even short names get shortened - or lengthened which is a strange phenomena ;)
