Don't click if you haven't had children and want to. *grins* The men have never had bad monthly cramps for an hour. Having food poisoning that put me in the hospital was much much worse for me.
I'd seen that video before and snickered through most of it. I've often said that the women who claim to have forgotten the pain of child birth were on far better drugs than I was and my pain tolerance is pretty high.
I was lucky both times. The labors were short, well the first one not so much but then they were trying to stop the labor.
Second one was short but back labor. Am surprised I don't have a permanent dent in my forehead having pressed it into the handle bars on the hospital bed.
The Boy was roughly 12 hours of labour. It was pretty intense, too, as the contractions were 5 minutes apart when I got to the hospital and then picked up the pace to be less than 2 minutes apart for the next 10 hours. The last 2 hours were contractions every 30 seconds. That was fun.
Not nearly as much fun as getting the episodimy stitched without pain killers/freezing though. For the record, that fucking hurt like you wouldn't believe and is one of the weirdest feelings ever.
Never had the joy of an episiotomy. First was not very big as she was premie. Second came on too fast, and doctor kept telling me to stop to allow the skin to stretch. One stitch because at the end *shrugs* it was too close to the get this out bear down reflex.
My family has Ehlers, poor connective tissue. We stretch easily and maybe that's why the pregnancies were as they were.
12 hours of intense. *shakes head* Jenn would have been an only child. Don't even want to imagine what it was like with contractions like that.
Well, there was the almost dying of blood loss, too. The Boy inherited the wide shoulders of his dad's side of the family and I'm not an overly large person. He got stuck and in addition to the head of the obgyn department, there was a dude there (which I agreed to) that was attending his first honest to goodness birth. He panicked when the baby got stuck and tried to force The Boy to come on out.
That ended up doing most of the tearing and nicked a vein. I didn't have my glasses on but even I could see the amazing fountain of blood that shot into the air and then continued to spurt. The head obgyn actually shoved the newbie out of the way and went to work fast to stop the bleeding.
I lost just over 2 pints of blood before she managed to stop the bleeding. She'd actually yelled for my blood to be cross-matched for transfusion, which I yelled right back, no (Ontario was in the midst of a tainted blood scandal at the time, thousands ended up infected with hepC).
So, yeah. 12 hours of intense pain followed by almost dying. So not doing that ever again. And I don't like children.
The anti-contraction medications made me nauseous which broke my water so they let me go ahead even though she was 5 weeks premie. Really was more like climbing a steep trail in a hike. Wasn't easy but manageable. Son was back labor and that... isn't fun because you can't get under the pain as well. Needles. I fear needles worse than spiders, match flames floating in the air fear, BUT I was concentrating on the sting of the needle in my hand when I wasn't straining my head against the bed rails. That made it manageable. Never had anything like those guys were going through and I was up and walking around the ward afterwards with one whole stitch from the ordeal. *smiles* Every pregnancy is different. Every labor is different. *shrugs* or maybe not. Never thought I'd be a good mom. Found out differently. May not be the best but they have turned out not too warped. *GRINS*
You are good dear. *pets* Very very good. *soft smiles*
