FB3X Drabble Cascade #43 - 'theatre'
Title: A Flight of Dragons (G)
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 200
Prompt: theatre
In palest greys the tops of the spare clouds sailed, their bottoms only slightly darker and sometimes tinged with a hint of blue against the powder grey sky. It was a complexity of composition in its simplicity, to be enjoyed and treasured though you knew that you couldn’t hold onto it even in a painting. It was too big.
A pattern neared in a silvery grey more solid than the sky, a pointed chevron of four wheeling in sleek gracefulness that made the heart hurt in want as they passed by. It was a training mission was the first thought and then a second chevron appeared behind them and then a third becoming instead a homecoming. Yet four was a number that lacked a comfortable symmetry. One side in the pattern lacked a member it seemed and though each chevron was comprised of the same number to justify that pattern how could one not think that one of them had fallen from the sky they moved so gracefully through and its place left vacant as tribute to its valor.
They passed by again in their great circling but this time the lead chevron numbered three, one safe aground and home.

If you don't live near a military airfield then you wouldn't see this often

They did a straight line of three and then one on the other side of the triangle.
This is what it looked like but they did do a missing man formation, dropping down to three at the end.

Watching touch and goes, which is practice for take offs and landings, they just touch the wheels to the ground and take off again. That is what I thought they were doing when I saw the first group come in because often those will be done as a squad.
Then I saw the next group and then the one following that. Too many for touch and goes, more we're coming home or shifting a squadron from another airfield.
They land one at a time and circle in formation until it's their plane's turn.

Date: 2014-01-16 12:53 am (UTC)There I am driving down the road into them so to speak, they passed by me over head and to the side and the planes were shiny and bright and sleek and graceful and I wanted so bad that I forgot I was an older woman and dumpy and wanted to give them my body for lustful things...
ooookaaay, got a small spot to hide in and a bowl to pull over top. There's nothing to see here. Move along.
