Personally as a child, I've heard my cat swear. She was climbing on a rafter that held a set of clotheslines in our basement. It wasn't far to fall thankfully and I couldn't get to her in time to catch her. This was back in the day when they declawed cats, at least their front paws.
She landed fine on her paws but the sound she made perfectly understandable as nothing else than a SHIT in Siamese Cat.

declawing! *grimace*

I bet then she had a hasty groom and gave you a 'I meant to do that' look?

Hasty groom, I think she did.

Yeah, I don't like the declawing either but my brother nearly lost an eye, per my parents, when one of our siamese kittens lost control of herself. My parents were ultra protective. We weren't to climb trees for fear we'd fall and break our necks etc etc etc. "Think before you do things," was a mantra said loudly to us more than very often. *sighs* They loved us. Only have one left now.
All our cats were indoor cats, never allowed out except on a line in a protected yard. One knew how to climb trees without those front claws.

Ratbag does that whenever um the windowsill deposits him onto the ground ;)

My mum could be like that.

Don't know of cat declawing in this country, but from what I understand America has more 'indoor cats' I remember reading comments on a pets forum where people were going crazy over a UK cat being allowed out to roam, ignoring the village location aka quiet roads and lack of predators. All the cats I know have the freedom to go out even if they choose not to, though a friend of a friend of a relative apparently has two ultra-expensive fluffballs that aren't allowed out.

We have SO many cars and here in Texas suburban and where we were in Arizona rural suburban there are coyotes that think of cats as tasty.

What I had problems with in Arizona though was a disease, Feline Leukemia. Easily spread through bites. So cat fights and male cats mating female cats.... All the cats were drop offs where people didn't want them anymore and they take them out into the country thinking the cat will live off the land. Most of the females were pregnant. Had 23 cats I was feeding at one point. Finally got all the females fixed before the devorce had me leaving the state. Neighbor was going to feed them. I'm told that the coyotes got them. AND that is why I won't have any more pets. It hurts too much.

Very different places. Lucky here no nasty predators and pretty quiet.

It does :(

We've found out hte black and white cat that likes sitting on our back porch taunting Ratbag through the window is a stray, he gets fed so I'm not sure we should feed/encourage him - Ratbag is a solo cat and enjoys his superiority.

*smiles* It wasn't so much my Mom being so over protective. It was my Daddy.
