FB3X Drabble Cascade #32 - Cage

Drabble Cascade at FB3X - Every Tuesday

Title: Hunger (horror)
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 100
Prompt: Cage
Ever wonder how many accidents happen on a road and how almost all evidence of them is gone so quickly?

Orange and white barrels lined the three lane divided highway, a sure sign of road construction. What wasn’t so obvious was written in the periodic crushed or dented barrels, lying off to the side. The black skids on the road itself or even up the half wall concrete dividers were easy to dismiss for what they were. Rarely a bumper or tangled metal of indeterminate purpose was seen but small plastic pieces littered the roadside, evidence of past accidents.

Dennis, driving into the confusing maze, watched in horror as the new highway construction temporarily metamorphosed into a trap before him.

You know, I used to be terrified of driving on highways. It took me a long time to get past that.

This is not helping me stay past it!

Yes, I know. There is a reason I don't get car sick while driving (well once but I had vertigo at the same time) I'M in control. It's the same as writing horror, I'M in control.

There's a lot of road construction going on on I20 in the DFW area at the moment that I need to drive through.

Initially this was going to be titled Sacrifice as in what they use to do with major projects in ancient ancient times to ensure they were successful. It seemed to fit but this diverted suspicion and still said the same thing. *grins*

Thank you and um sorry?
But isn't it fascinating how all the major evidence is swept away neatly so we don't see and make the connection.

It really is rather sad, but mundane at the beginning, maybe a road accident tribute. It's only because I know your work now that I'm waiting for the twist in the last line :).

During projects of this nature, one has to propriate the gods with sacrifices, which was almost the title for this drabble. It amazes me how well the accidents are cleared away so you almost can't tell anything happened there and they do it so quickly.

Rats you're on to my tricks.*grins*
Next month is NaNoZoMo. There shall be more zombies around....... maybe.
