When Everett arrived for breakfast, which really it was past noon so should it not be called luncheon, he did not look as rested as he should for the length of time he’d been in his rooms. It could lead a caring brother to worry if that brother didn’t have other things pressing and so it was slotted away for follow up if the condition continued. For all that Everett was an adult older brothers were bound to be interested in their welfare, and he was, but for now there was a private card game whose stakes held greater interest.

Everett's brother is neglectful, too bound up in his own pleasures or he would wonder at Everett's problem... or maybe the company he's keeping that results in changes to Everett's new mannerisms? So familiar perhaps.

1. Write Everett his reading materials.
2. Read how Everett is reacting to his new friend's attentions.
3. Uncomfortable questions asked of baby brothers.

He's probably going to start noticing the subtle hints. Why is Everett leaning against the wall when there is an abundance of chairs? Was that a wince as lady blahblah pressed too close? Now why.....? NO! Everett?!

Lol! Excellent drabble. But we still don't know who the caring brother--well, almost caring since his mind is distracted by a certain card game--is!

I am loath to relinquish the mystery but probably will need to lest I fall into the dreaded the brother/his lover labeling.

Oh yes, 'the older brother' is preoccupied with his own 'needs'.
