Title: A Bout of Riding
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 100
“Now, Everett is the brother of which card playing gentleman? Either way, it's good to see he's supportive, even if he enjoys his brother's discomfort.”—miri Thompson
Notice how careful was I was being.*grins*
Continues from here

His brother’s seat on the horse was off. His brother’s gait was off too, Everett thought, worse than usual after his Thursday card game.

Unusual too was that his brother’s playing partner had shown up to ride with their party. Everett didn’t remember inviting him but was growled at when he commented.
Cynthia, the little gold digger after a golden ring, was not pleased and so Everett couldn’t be more pleased. His brother deserved better than that.

He smiled. Never had he seen an ass carried quite so far from the saddle, like there was a stick up his… Oh.

This was fun to write. So tempting to label which is the brother and which the other player but I was stern with myself.

You read like you're doing okay. This makes me happy. How was work? Lot's of sympathetic noises I hope.

well there's plenty time for that in the next one :)

Yeah, heaps better. They'd gone home early 'as there was nothing to do' I had a list of all last weeks work to finish that' hadn't been done - math? it does not add!
And she's played with my rota this week so I was to finish early, so I missed dinner and finished even earlier and avoided her.

Also had the part-timer in with me to train.

*eyeroll* like I've never been away!!!

Left my hair down, swelling is down to where it's not too noticable then so got left alone. Sore though because I had to keep talking telling the girl stuff.

Not eating much or anything seemed to work with getting away early. Kept you too from swearing aloud at people for leaving you to do their work. For all the soreness, hopefully the girl you're training will have your work ethic and ability.

Well I'm limited on what I can eat so tore up a sarnie just so I could take tablets.

YES :D

She seems really nice, capable but no rush in her, light shift, if it had been the usual workload I'd have gone scatty ;)

Now that would be painfully uncomfortable if you were feeling pronged on your card partner's intentions.

I know, I saw the cute little smilies and thought ouch. You have forever shadowed my innocent pleasure in innocent things! No I'm not smirking! It's the swelling, honest!

All sorts of previously unreproachably innocent things. *wanders off to nibble a cucumber*

We giggle at school when we see postings of position openings for Admin. Ass.
*head desk* That was in administrative jargon and it came out so wrong.

Am not commenting on any swellings of heads.

Cock Soup = New England Clam Chowder and Chicken

or you could leave out the chicken cause the other tastes like.... nevermind. Nevermind nevermind. The way that the Campbell's Soup people make it, it's salty and thin white and tastes like.... probably clams.
Of course they couldn't call it New England if it's sold in England. Like French Fries are Pommes Frites and for you chips (yes?)

New England Clam Chowder

Ingredients
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium onion, finely diced
2 celery stalks (reserve tender leaves) trimmed, quartered lengthwise, then sliced into 1/4-inch pieces
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups chicken or vegetable stock
2 (10-ounce) cans chopped clams in juice
1 cup heavy cream
2 bay leaves
1 pound Idaho potatoes, cut into 1/2- inch cubes
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Pan Toasted Croutons:

2 to 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 baguette, cut into 1-inch cubes
3 tablespoons freshly chopped flat-leaf parsley
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Directions
Heat the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and celery and saute until softened, mixing often. Stir in the flour to distribute evenly. Add the stock, juice from 2 cans of chopped clams (reserve clams), cream, bay leaves, and potatoes and stir to combine. Bring to a simmer, stirring consistently (the mixture will thicken), then reduce the heat to medium-low and cook 20 minutes, stirring often, until the potatoes are nice and tender. Then add clams and season to taste with salt and pepper, cook until clams are just firm, another 2 minutes.

For the Pan Toasted Croutons:
Melt the butter in a large skillet and toss the bread cubes in the butter until browned and toasted, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add parsley and season with salt and pepper.

That might be interesting, not sure if I've ever tried clams unless they've been in random fishy dishes I've had. Like seafood, and from cans so no stress of fresh, will have to try it.

Hmmm salty white sauce - You make it sound in-ter-esting

French fries are what we call the narrow chips you get from MacDonalds
Chips are when you sweet talk your hubby into chopping up potatoes to fry or wandering down to the chipshop.
Crips come flavoured in a packet and are good for picnicks

It's all too confusing I'm going to go eat some ice-cream, I've deemed myself healed enough to attempt it.

To me that salty white sauce was VERY similar to interesting other sauce. Now why would men think this an aphrodisiac, since oysters and clams are so alike I think?.... oh never mind maybe it's that the similarities go cross gender human wise too.

I've only tried Clam Chowder once. My former while we were married used to love it.
*grins* He's visiting. I could always offer to buy a can for him and see if he eats it. *shrugs* Perhaps I'll try some again. Maybe my tastes have matured like they did with ripe tomatoes.

What were the ingredients? Do they list them on the back/side of the can with the nutrition information like we do here?

You shall find this out and let me know because now I'm curious.

"They do, we never found it though..." *snickers* well if it's scared it would shrink or was it that you were suppose to make it less ... in cost?

ROFL! Excellent continuation.

Hard to blame a girl for gold-digging back in the day, when there were so few options--I hope Cynthia sets her sights on someone more likely to propose, though!

My mind wants to put this into an early to mid 1900s setting. *grins* You caught that.

Thank you. *smiles* You're to blame for this.
