Kel has seen his share of weird throughout his life, but when London asks him to sub for her and her boyfriend, that tops the list. He isn't gay. He isn't bi. He definitely isn't submissive. And with an underlying case of post-traumatic stress disorder from years in the military, anything BDSM just sounds dangerous.
But he also doesn't want to see his friends hurt, and he's positive that will happen if they get together with strangers from the Internet. London plays things too close to the vest for him to get a good enough read on her, but Kel trusts Ty, even if he doesn't think he'll enjoy turning over control. It'll be a one-off, it'll be a little weird, and they'll all go back to normal.
He's not sure what to do when a little weird turns out to be something he wants.
It's been a long time since I stayed up all night to finish a book and here it is 6 am in the morning.
Loved this easy flowing story that doesn't let go of the reader. I enjoyed watching Kel emotionally change as he faces his needs and redefines what those needs are while suffering what the Iraq War has left him with. This isn't really BDSM, it's a softer version of a D/s romance as you'd expect considering the broken nature of Kel.
Only thing that I'd wish for is that the story had included the author extra especially and the other short glimpses that were written as part of the contest. More is better, right?
Yes I recommend it. There's going to be re-read. It's a keeper.

Date: 2013-07-12 01:55 pm (UTC)EDIT - be careful only to leave glowing reviews.
I said a book didn't appeal to me and had the author pop up to say he was in good company with the books I don't like and two long posts from his personal friend to tell me how wrong I was to not love the book. Telling me she's not picking on me, But..

Date: 2013-07-12 02:47 pm (UTC)A Little Weird is D/s with attention to safe words (which amusingly for Kel is 'safe word'), and prior STD testing, condom use and the Dom's attention to where his sub is to ensure his emotional and physical safety during play extending into after care. Too the relationship is molded to what the individual needs.
Weird has more detail to the action and the characters aren't cardboard facsimiles, perhaps Ty is too perfect a Dom but in a good way. *smiles* Did I mention communication... that's stressed for its importance to the D/s relationship in this story.

Date: 2013-07-12 05:04 pm (UTC)I liked Apartment (insert number here) for the enthusiasm - it's always clear how thrilled he is by any new activity which isn't always the empthasis in such stories. I have no idea if it would be considered genuine BDSM or light entertainment, there's things (medical/electrical..) alluded too but the book contents never challenged comfort zones.
Had a very quick look at the one sentance links you posted, and the dynamic felt loving, as though he needed to to be ordered out of his head. Still not convinced I'd like a d/s book though.

Date: 2013-07-13 05:07 am (UTC)So yeah just for truth in advertising, especially after the 'ack, they put het in my gay fiction' kerfuffle, there is het done in this book and it's hot, all the sexy is no matter where they explore.
