The Question had been: if you were going to ask Santa for something this year what would it be?

The immediate answer was, let the massacre not have happened. But no that wasn’t possible for even a fantasy in a red suit to make happen. Those things are meant to be worked through until in some way, sometime in the future, they didn’t necessarily become unimportant but you could feel acceptance and like there might be some joy yet in the world.

So what to ask for, money to cover his debts but no why should he be favored when there were others out there more needy, those who had no place to sleep out of the cold or food to fill their children’s bellies. It would take a while, a long while, but he could work through his own fiscal disaster. He’d earned it.

A list of things that needed fixing around the house or even in the garage came to mind; a new car, a new microwave, a new battery for his toothbrush. All those things seemed too trite and a family member might provide some of them, well except for the battery but then his young nephew was a good hearted kid. If you get one wish to ask Santa for something, it should be special.

Special brought him back to the impossible. It brought him back to things Santa couldn’t put in his bag of presents. And he realized that he’d already been given the present he really wanted. Everyone had received it over an eon ago.

He knelt down and framed his words and he addressed it to the proper person.

Dear Father, who art in Heaven.
Please help us to remember that your love, that you’ve already given us, is all that we need.

Sweet, and *shock* not a santa ending ;) I like it.

Was discussing with hubby how Christmas is now so commercial, talk is all on how much people have spent and all they 'have' to buy still. Seen very little good cheer this year and very very few religous cards.

The massacre is the stuff of nightmares regardless of timing but I keep picturing the parents sitting at home, decorations around them and their kids toys still under the tree ;(

One mom's phone beeped at her reminding her to take her child to his scout meeting. Nightmare stuff. There's a link to a site http://anarchistsoccermom.blogspot.com/2012/12/thinking-unthinkable.html

with possible insight into the family of the shooter. The photo of the shooter on another site makes him look ... I want to reach into him and fix him. Heal away that lost Gollum look from the Hobbit look of him.

This is a commercial time of year. It strips the meaning from the holiday and replaces it with sales figures. I like it where the gift giving festivities are separated from the religious celebration.

Thank you. *smiles* I'm glad you liked this. It was cathartic to write.

That article is heart-breaking.

Movies teach mental illness is all pschotic killers or cutesy quirks, the reality can be too scary to face.

Nice little story. The kind of guy who thinks of the less fortunate even when he's in trouble, is the kind that deserves a little something extra.

I've gotten to the part of my Christmas shopping (only one present left to buy) when I want to shower those I love with presents when I've already bought them stuff (things are always so much easier to pick out when the pressure is off). I don't even care if I get anything.

Thank you. *smiles* Christmas buying. *sighs* My daughter was easy.. if I can keep it alive. black thumbs.

Their father was almost too easy. There's a reason I married him even if it didn't last.

The son is going to be a project. He needs more t-shirts.
Son in law is the sticking point. Cue frantic eeeeeks and running around.
