Title: The Eve (G, supernatural)
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 200
Prompt: Advent

Perhaps it was the wind rattling the windows or a more discrete pressure on some metaphysical plane. Alan woke suddenly and waited with eyes closed in an instinctively still state; cataloging sounds in the house, reaching with senses that really didn’t exist for the reason for his waking. The room was quiet with just a hint of cold air about it but that was normal, it was December after all. Perhaps it had been the furnace coming on or shutting off, he thought and shifted his position onto his back.

Nothing warned him.

“You might as well look,” said a voice.

For a minute that seemed like ten, Allen considered whether or not to open his eyes. The voice was familiar, like a memory from childhood nightmares that at the time had scared the shit out of him but he was grown older than that, or so he thought. It was probably a dream that he was in, was his reflection.

A chuckle was heard, “Not a dream.”

Allen considered and rejected arguing with the dream about its reality. Best not to encourage it.

In a sing song voice was merrily sung, “Al-len. I am your Ghost of Christmas Present.”
