I want to say thankyou to all of you for your advice and good wishes.

Norton has a free download of a malware killer that is now sitting on my desktop (am sure the genie is hiding off to one side eying it with intent to kill the malware killer. So now I know the Gen's name, Malwar.) The other suggested spyware killer was for Vista and I've an XP. Was really disappointed about that. *sighs*
I also, and this is what I think has really done the trick, downloaded the Microsoft Service Pack 3 2007. *head desk* ooops.
I am SO uptodate on my virus definitions and my computer has been scanned within an inch of its life. All that is suppose to be automatic anyway but I did it anyway.

We shall see.

Great! I really hope that all works out for you and there's no problems from here on in.

(Can't you set up XP to automatically download service packs and updates? Or was that only Vista and above? It's been so long since I've used a computer running XP I really don't remember...)

So far so good.. so far. *nervous grin*

I think you can set it up. Use to be able to I think but the problem with auto updates is they happen behind the scene and your computer suddenly slows down. What I need to do is set a time reminder to check.

*grins*

That's the bonus of newer computers. Everything happens in the background and there's enough memory and processing power that I never really notice!

"Bonus of new computer" *bites you*
*thinks about external hard drive*
*wishes for winning million dollar lottery ticket or even quarter million, I'm not picky*

errrmmmmm\

I zapped it again last night because it was giving me those messages again.
My son seems to think that maybe I've reached my limit on storage.
What do download logs do again? Think that's where the large numbers are.
*goes off to check*

Most brutal way to 'heal' a computer is completely formatting the hard drive (after backing up EVERYTHING that is on there) and installing everything again from the ground up...*sigh* At least, that's what I've been told! And it cleans it up nicely...

It's somewhat the equivalent of moving house to clean up the attic! Sort of, I guess #_# *urgh* please ignore. I live with a computer wizard, but he is not in at the moment *headdesk*

Icon. See the icon.

*places first finger of right hand vertically. places first finger of left hand perpendicular to right hand finger. = wards off the evil with crossed fingers*

I have gone in and done a disk cleanup and told it to get rid of everything. My boss said that if there's a box it's made to tic and saving the stuff is for computer geeks to play. She does hers that way. So... Now we shall see
