Normally the sky just was. A big bright overall infused surrounding of light. Today that sky was the smooth softness of a plump coverlet in dove gray.
As he watched, driving into the east, he saw the wakening. First the hint that stood up like a child’s sleep rumpled hair, then the peeking out of a forehead and finally the full ball roundness of the head. Except it wasn’t a head and the brightness was too much to look at for long. The orb glowed with beyond the semblance of heated metal, not the timid brightness of a flame but with a majestic force that said ‘I am’.
This is why early man had given the name Apollo , Aten and many other names to this thing that rose steadily into the sky. It held a presence in its being, it awed. Science said this was a star, an other worldly thing. He saw it as more. If this object was not of Earthly things, it still was of all things made and he marveled at the wonders of the greatness of He who made all.
