The Christmas Wish
Dec. 16th, 2012 12:30 pmThe Question had been: if you were going to ask Santa for something this year what would it be?
The immediate answer was, let the massacre not have happened. But no that wasn’t possible for even a fantasy in a red suit to make happen. Those things are meant to be worked through until in some way, sometime in the future, they didn’t necessarily become unimportant but you could feel acceptance and like there might be some joy yet in the world.
So what to ask for, money to cover his debts but no why should he be favored when there were others out there more needy, those who had no place to sleep out of the cold or food to fill their children’s bellies. It would take a while, a long while, but he could work through his own fiscal disaster. He’d earned it.
A list of things that needed fixing around the house or even in the garage came to mind; a new car, a new microwave, a new battery for his toothbrush. All those things seemed too trite and a family member might provide some of them, well except for the battery but then his young nephew was a good hearted kid. If you get one wish to ask Santa for something, it should be special.
Special brought him back to the impossible. It brought him back to things Santa couldn’t put in his bag of presents. And he realized that he’d already been given the present he really wanted. Everyone had received it over an eon ago.
He knelt down and framed his words and he addressed it to the proper person.
Dear Father, who art in Heaven.
Please help us to remember that your love, that you’ve already given us, is all that we need.
