Lets see we have earthquakes, and tsunami. Volcanoes are erupting in Hawaii and Indonesia and there's some large flooding in the U.S. at least. The smell of smoke is in the wind as there's a few large grass fires north of here in the DFW area.
All we need is an asteroid strike now to round it all off.

My sister tells me that a patron came into the library and made a $1000 cash donation for the purchase of e-books and then later another patron dropped off donuts.
Clearly the apocalypse is about to happen.

To everyone who has sent sympathy over the fire deaths that recently happened to one of my friends. Thank You. I love you all.

This generous patron at your sister's library, not to mention the giver of donuts are glimmers of brightness in the midst of succeeding disasters. We are frail creatures on this globe, but not without our own transcendance.

Hopefully, we are not about to go the way of the dinosaurs just yet.

The grass fires are not actually close to where you are?

Hope you are ok and finding ways to come through this hard time.

The winds and low humidity are what is making the fires bad. The smell smoke is strong but it's not too close to us. So many bad things happening around not just us here but all over.

That was a nice glimmer of people being nice to people. My sister is in shock.

Yes indeed, the devastation in Japan is terrible, hard to comprehend. The world has been hit by some grim happenings of late.

The tsunami footage was devastating: a wall of water, roaring across the land, pushing along 'debris' (houses, boats, cars), fires starting in the debris as it moved, and then I freaked as I saw cars trying to outrun it all.

I just read that they're expecting the death toll to reach 1000. It's just so sad. So, so sad.

Indonesia, New Zealand, to name a few others...

This planet has been doing some very strange things of late.

when I first heard the death toll it was in the hundreds but can imagine it being able to be higher. Think what it could have been if not for the Japanese being so prepared for earthquakes and the construction of their buildings against this sort of thing. Still for it to have happened at the time of day it did, on the magnitude it did...

Yes, the planet is doing some very interesting things lately, just like the Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.

Yes Interesting Times. The Ring of Fire seems to be very active right now.
It is very dry here. There are no fires locally but they are popping up around the state. We have had high winds and because it is so dry you can smell the dirt in the air. There has been a dirt haze at times also.

Very nice about the donations.

It does.
At this point, considering the area it's in, I'm waiting for Godzilla to attack Tokyo.*sigh*

I feel for the families over there.

I had the strange urge to laugh at your comment of kindness being the sure sign of the apocalypse coming ^_^

It has surely been an emotional wrecking week... Love you too *hug*

These surely are interesting times. Quite clear why it is a curse...

A friend of my sister's responded to the list, which is funny in itself.. Librarian's are suppose to be more tech savey. His take on the gifts, that it said something about him that he was more excited by the donuts than the money. *grins* I'm betting it's because there's less 'paperwork'.

Interesting times.. yes a curse. Also a blessing because it strips away many barriers and the best of people can be allowed to show.

*hugs* Sorry to hear about your friend. Things seem bad now, globally, but there are bits of brightness everywhere if you look hard enough. I hope the world doesn't end soon. I'll never experience life outside of being in school if does. :p

A friend of my sister's responded to her e-mail of the donations of money and donuts with what did it say about him that he was more excited about the donuts.
Sadly the donuts did not get eaten. Nobody even opened the box. Now that is a sure sign of the coming apocalypse, which might get here sometime in the next couple billion years.

Disasters.. I'm under orders NOT to be in one. The Dibbs has spoken. *grins*
