Charm Big Star Quilt- Quilting With Charm Packs!
78" x 60"
4 Charm Packs Print (5" squares) = 10" (one layer cake) = 4 charm packs , 48 charm squares per yard
1 1/2 yds of Solid White Fabric (includes 1" inner border)
1 1/2 yds of Solid Red Fabric
1 1/4 yds for border 5" wide
Make the Big Star first.
Cut 4 (9" squares) from the Red
Cut 2 (9" squares) from the White
Cut 4 (6" squares) from the White
Put two squares together and sew all the way around them then cut them diagonally in both directions.
--Put two Red squares together and sew. = 4 half square triangles
--2 (Put two Red and White squares together and sew) = 8 half square triangles
Assemble:
STAR
Sew 4 of the Red squares into a 4 patch. If using 2 other colors, arrange in pinwheel.
Lay the 'legs' of the star so the Red half is against the center Red 4 Patch and the Whites meet in the center (flying geese). Do this for all 4 sides.
Put solid White squares at corners. They should be the same size as the finished half square triangles.
Charm Packs -- (12 squares across X 9 squares down)
Stagger your colors.
Sew bottom part first. 12 squares across x 9 squares down.
Sew 5 rows of 2 squares to the side of the Star.
Sew 5 rows of 5 squares to the other side.
Sew 2 rows of 12 squares across across top.
However, you can put the Big Star anywhere on the quilt.
