Grandma’s Old Fashioned Custard Style Rice Pudding
http://recipepatch.com/no-one-will-ever-get-bored-grandmas-old-fashioned-custard-style-rice-pudding/
Ingredients
4 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
3 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
3 cups cooked, cooled, rice (leftover rice works great!)
1 cup raisins
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Beat the eggs and sugar together. Slowly pour in the milk and cream and mix well. Add the vanilla and cinnamon and mix well. Add the rice and raisins and stir to combine. Pour mixture into a greased casserole dish.
Place the filled casserole dish inside a larger, oven-proof dish. Add about 2 inches of water to the larger pan (or enough to fill about halfway up the side of the rice pudding dish). This method will help the pudding to have a custard texture.
Bake for 30 minutes. Gently stir. Bake for an additional 30 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean. Serve warm.

Date: 2017-03-15 05:31 am (UTC)Craig had never wanted to own a pet - he couldn't even keep a house plant alive, and feeding himself properly was never a certain thing. But Ms Muffet (at least he was assuming it was a girl, how did you tell these things apart anyway?) had started hanging around his backdoor, demanding scraps . . . and then pets and skritches . . . and then she'd hopped up on his lap and started giving him wee kitty kisses on the face.
Then he'd noticed she was getting plump.
Awfully plump, considering he wasn't giving her *that* much food, although the high protein, grain free canned meat he bought at the expensive super market down the street was no indicator of her status in his life. When he'd pointed that fact out to her, she'd bitten his nose . . . which he took as indicative of the fact that women never appreciated you mentioning their weight, even if they weren't human. He wasn't sure what Ms Muffet thought it meant.
He'd mentioned it to Tracey at work who had two cats, and she'd looked at him knowingly and said he needed to get Ms Muffet to the vet - a stray cat, turning up suddenly, and getting plump for no reason? That meant kittens and soon . . .
Craig was terrified. He couldn't look after himself, let alone be a father . . . but now . . he had a (potentially) pregnant girl cat at his feet as he waited nervously in the vet's waiting room (Tracey had loaned him a carrier - he hadn't even realised he'd need one, just figured Ms Muffet would be happy in his backpack on the subway . . . ). What if she was pregnant? What if she wasn't?? Would she want to even stay with him once she was fat and happy and didn't need him for food? Would she keep curling up behind his knees at night, sending a faint, rumbling purr through his body and soul? And what if she had kittens? Would she pay any attention to him then and . . .
"Mr Mason?" The vet was smiling - and very very handsome. "I believe you have bought Ms Muffet to see me . . . ?" And for not the first time in his life, Craig was struck silent - oh yes, he had Ms Muffet to see him, but Craig had definitely seen him first . . .

Date: 2017-03-15 03:24 pm (UTC)-Didn't know what to name her (son likes Grey, LC *little cat* appeals to me but doesn't seem to fit with her) *grins* Put down 'No Name Yet' on the form. Wonder how many cats are named that.
-Cat is about 1 year old
-She's sweet natured non-aggressive (ha, you should hear her when the neighbor cat tries to get to the food on the doorstep)
-Scared as her breathing was about the same speed as her heart.
-She has a faint heart murmur (so do I meh though not all doctors agree on that)
-oh and pregnant (did not opt to have her x-rayed to determine how many)
- expensive (decided to go with spaying her)
They're going to do all the immunizations, worming and tests
Test for feline leukemia/heart worm
$600 which includes 2 nights (she's overnighting tonight as surgery is tomorrow and then they will monitor her after it)
She should cost less to feed as she won't be eating for many.
paid 1/2 down today.
Think doctor was impressed I was doing this for essentially a feral/refugee cat
Am not going to be a crazy cat lady
