Another photo from the storm that someone posted.

btw not my neighborhood. We're more trees. But everything lit up like this right after the rain storm flew by.

Pretty.
Or freaky alien invasion.
One of the two ;)

Are the houses all spaced out like that?
Lots of room for ships to land....

Some house lots are that big. Most times you get a choice, do you want a large backyard or a large front yard. The newer developed areas can have both. Room for a below ground pool too even.

More area means more lawn to mow in most cases. Can mean large garden with room for a covered patio with a BBQ pit and trees.

Notice the house that you see just the corner of on the right. That looks like it has a two car garage built in on the house and you need that concrete apron to maneuver into the garage because there's a right angle turn into it. We're big on stockade fences too that people can't look over top.

No terraced houses then?
We're packed closer together here.

The land is fairly flat around here so no terraced houses, which explains why there are signs and bumper stickers that say, "Turn around, Don't drown!"
We do have rivers that like to spread out, get comfortable and flow hard and fast, sometimes frolicing.
Storm sewers (where rain is supposed to run to the rivers) only have so much capacity.
I did say that my house is at the top of a steepish driveway. hmmmm Evidently there's some high ground, My house. Now I'm wondering if there's a burial mound under my house..... probably not.

Now wondering what you consider a steepish drive ;)
This is Wales! *giggle*

Not steep where I am but the mountain rises behind us.
My area:

Mountain looks flat from that angle, that's the official mountain the others are hills ;) It's taken from the railway tracks the field at front is where we generally walk the dog. I live a little to the right and across the main road from there ;)

Okay not my house but similar pitch to the driveway and the spacing is about right as seen from the street but my front yard is wider than this.

Looks spaced out, probably because no fences or walls surrounding it.
Are houses generally one storey where you are? (I know America is a big place and not all the same!) When we went to NZ it was all bungalows.

This is the lake a few miles from my house, created by damming the Clear Fork of the Trinity River.
