Ah but which wand?

Meep is responsible for this with her posting of her Harry Potter photos.
And then Meri brought up if parents needed to take their small familiar kittens on a shopping expedition for their first wand.

One wonders if familiars need wands and if so, that would suggest there is also "Trip to get kittens' first wand" fic.

Muwhahha.

to wand or not to wand ??

They might or they may not. It could be a dangerous trip because there would be wizards there too and maybe they'll think a sweet familiar kitten would be just the thing.

STOPPPP EEET!!

Buttercup didn't understand what the big deal was. So they were going wand shopping. Finally. Her bestest friend had had her wand for a year now. Buttercup and her brothers were all most eleven (10 and 6 months and 1 day was closer to eleven than ten after all) and it was long past time, in her opinion, that they got their first wand.

She was a bit miffed that her uncles (who were a whole month younger) got to come too, but Papa Warne and Grandpapa Bazaar had decided it would be easier to protect everybody if they all went at once. Buttercup thought maybe Grandpapa's decision had something to do with the fact that as soon as the wand maker saw Papa Warne he shooed everyone else out of the shop and locked the door, but really, the important thing here was that Buttercup (and her brothers - maybe) didn't need protecting! Buttercup was eleven! She could look after herself - she certainly did not need Papa Warne, and Grandpapa Bazaar, and Grandfather Duke, and Uncles Erhard and Warren and their wizards (whose names Buttercup could never remember since she had so many uncles and they all had wizards) and Grandpa Bryan (who had insisted on bring his broadsword - which Buttercup could so lift - but who had been convinced to leave his full armour at home. Buttercup was pretty sure he had his chain mail shirt on under his tunic though). Papa Ranel had stayed at home with the twins, guarded (although Buttercup was not sure why) by Uncle Amur (she suspected Uncle Amur just hadn't wanted to come shopping).

All for wandshopping! Which was turning out to be pretty boring, if you asked Buttercup, as she scuffed her shoe idly on the floor while Papa Warne and Grandpapa Bazaar and the wandmaker discussed the merits of wyvern scale and unicorn hair with ash versus gryphon fur and basilisk scale with oak for wands. Her brothers and uncles - the suck ups - all stood quietly, studiously paying attention to the conversation, eight little boys with varying hair colors all dressed in knee britches and black duffle coats, nodding their heads as if they understood what was being talked about(although one of the uncles had poofed into kitten form a few minutes ago and been quickly scooped up and tucked inside Grandpapa Bazaar's vest. Buttercup envied him).

Grandpa Bryan was at the door, suspiciously glaring out the window at passers-by, while Grandfather Duke and Uncle Warren (and his wizard) had disappeared into the rear of the shop. Uncle Erhard (and his wizard) had taken up positions at opposite sides of the small, but crowded space and weren't even pretending to listen to the supposedly interesting wizardly conversation (lucky them). Buttercup also suspected that Uncle Creepy-Wizard (Uncle Amur's partner) was lurking somewhere, but she didn't really want to know for sure.

Or . . . did she? Grandfather Duke and Uncle Warren had returned from the rear of the shop and were consulting with Grandpa Bryan. For once, the attention of the adults wasn't even partially on her . . . and the curtain to the backroom had been left temptingly open. If there wasn't anything interesting back there, it wouldn't be kept hidden, right? Quietly, completely unnoticed, Buttercup poofed to kitten form and slipped silently past the velvety fabric.

P.S. You will notice there are many long, run on sentences - this is deliberate cos I'm channeling how Buttercup thinks.

Also, I must be a very powerful wizard cos I have four familiars.

Oh sweetness and loveliness and obviously part 1.
*GRINS*

Reposted with mention of Uncle Mercad, whose wizard partner is Arcano, in place of Thom and Amur.

Oops, no, I got the wrong uncle and the wrong partner! I was too lazy to look up which uncle was partnered with which wizard and my lazy brain told me it was Amur partnered with the necromancer, Mercator. OBS NOT! I shall go look properly and change names (must be from the litter of older brothers).

Okay, so it won't let me edit the fic (cos it's in a comment) but the Uncle I meant was Uncle Mercad, whose wizard partner is Arcano, both of whom are necromancers. Not poor sweet Thom and Amur.

That I get.
Amur is definitely the plump lazy manipulator who'd get out of a stressful shopping trip but I'm attached to his Thom who was a solemn sweetie.
The verse is immense ;)
