Notice how you can often tell the BS stories from the real ones just by the level of rhetoric? I'm constantly amazed that *anybody* falls for those (and to be fair, they come from both sides of the political aisle). I mean, just compare the use of reason and evidence from each site, and I know which one I'd put my money on.

If people really do view that sort of emotional hype talk as 'evidence' (from the 'smartgirl' oxymoron site), it explains a lot about how humans can get tricked into doing some pretty despicable stuff. I have fantasies sometimes, of how it would be if the world became educated enough to think with their intellect instead of their emotions -- it's a dream, anyway.

Speaking from a prof to a librarian, I suspect we agree on that point. :)

ETA: have to admit I do love the irony of Snopes getting urban-mythed. *lol*

It was interesting that the person who brought this to my attention is a flagrant passer on of things that are not true. Snopes has been sent back in response. Imagine that finding and being able to pass on this supposed debunking of the debunkers gave her great joy. *grins*

I love how David, before he went "decline to state," was a registered Republican. LOL! I guess we know which set of debunkers doesn't do their homework.

Indeed the debunkers didn't do their homework but then the intention wasn't to be necessarily truthful.
