Although the shape does look suspicious, I really like the color/texture and I am in need a description of a dragon egg (I'm plotting out a 1001 Nights type story with dragons).
The outside looks clear and the inside has bumps/folds, so if the outside was a regular shape (whether sphere, 'egg' shape, long like a snake egg, or the football shape of a emu's egg) the shell would be clear and you'd be looking at the actual scales of the baby dragon.
In the story the stones have been passed down for generations with only one crazy aunt believing they are anything other than decorations. But something like this would be pretty enough to keep in the family.
I think they will come in different colors. Orange and magenta and blue, etc., all with the green overtone that marks the scales as coming from a dragon.
I am glad this might be of use to you. It looks like a lattice like looking in through an Elizabethan window. Now if the lattice is for protection but the gaps show the inside, well chicken eggs have an inner membrane and I think the air chamber inside the egg works like the bell of a water spider to allow oxygen to defuse into that chamber. Perhaps a dragon egg is set up like this to allow for air to defuse through the gaps in the lattice.
I'm overthinking it. *grins* Use as you see fit. I don't mind and I don't plan to be writing anything dragon in the semi to far -near future. *sighs* I've still got the blood donor clinic thing to finish WHICH DOESN'T WANT TO RESOLVE INTO COMPLETION.
Besides I like Meridae's take on it as magical familiar poop. *laughing* Better for me to poke her into writing if I can.

"Well, it would wouldn't it, considering."
