Well technically they do own, are taking responsibility for, the cat until the cat establishes who actually runs the house and their lives.
Teo was making sure that Millie wasn't going to make waves (so unpleasant) and well *shrugs* he's a head wizard/professor used to dealing with young wizards and familiars. There's a certain degree of ownership in his dealings with students and even probably wizards under him in the department.
Millie- she's a Hyacinth Bouquet character here; self-important, married into a family of great social class. thinks she's better than most everybody else. But she is family and there are children involved that might need her influence tempered so Teo handles her with the utmost politeness.
Rufus.... yeah I was tired and had stepped away from this story to eat, coming back to it to finish it. Fergus morphed into Rufus and I've no idea who that is. Thanks for catching it. Changed.
The many of the familiars in this animal shelter have been on the streets longer and are older. They're survivors so they have been hardened a bit. Fergus let the cat out of the bag changing like he did and now they'll not get picked up and brought to this particular shelter any more. They'll be taken to a rehabilitation shelter for stray familiars to help them become productive members of society. And ....
my fingers don't want to find the keys any more but I'm talking myself up plunnys.
Stop that.
*smiles* Thank you.
