Prompt #122 - colour_ink_draw

Title: Asking for a Favor
Wizards World- Erhard & Warren
Author: charisstoma
Word count: 100

“Warren? Can you do me a favor? Pleeeeeease.” Warren thought that Erhard had gotten himself into enough trouble already but he’d been his partner in crime since forever and had had the therapy to prove it.

Patiently applying colour to the ink drawing, “What do you want Erhard? Please not anything that Papa Brian is going to want to skin us over.”

Trying to look innocent, Erhard focused his eyes on his brother. “There’s this DVD...”

“That one?!” At his brother’s nod, sighing “Alright, I’ll draw the conjuring spell at school but if we get into trouble, I’m blaming you.”

The last words, well almost the last words cause I love you was the last, that Papa Brian said to Warren was to not let Erhard get him into trouble and that if anyone tried anything to think ‘what his fathers would do in those circumstances‘. Warren hid his smile at that under shiny eyed repressed tears; he was a big cat and big cats don’t cry for their daddies when being left off a school.. Much.

‘Papa Brian was right to warn him about not getting dragged into trouble.’ Erhard had said they were going to a nice quiet place to get a nip. It was as they entered the door after paying the entrance fees while showing, ’where did Erhard get fake IDs?!’, and the tantalizing smells hit him that he realized where his brother had brought him. The sign over the bar might have been a clue too, Kitty Catnip Emporium blazed in neon green light.

A hissed, “Erhard!” had only earned him a flash of a smile.

“Lighten up, bro. You need to experience life a little.” Erhard didn’t say it but it was implied, ‘and maybe get laid.’

Warren poofed into kitten form, loudly saying to one and all just how young he was. He was dying of embarrassment and ran out of the bar before they could pick him up by the scruff of his neck and toss him out. There’d been a few cat calls and some bats to his tail as he made for the door. A pissed off Erhard had followed soon after, also in kitten form, sitting down a short distance away and grooming himself. Warren felt a momentary vicious sense of satisfaction that Erhard finally knew how he felt because he was pretty sure that those bats he’d , and probably Erhard, experienced on the way out could be classified as minor, uninhibited, catnip induced, sexual assaults. ‘See therapy did help.’

Walking over to his brother, he gave him a nose touch and a head butting. ‘How about we go back to the dorms and chill.’ and watched as Erhard had brightened at the idea. Warren knew that he was remembering a certain DVD that Warren had, for him, conjured from home.

Two young kittens out scampering in the night are more than likely to cause doting smiles at the cute, if it were a blissfully ignorant human catching them at it. The person who confronted them coming onto school grounds, as they tumbled over each other in playing chase, was not ignorant of what they were. They were students who had been where they shouldn‘t be, for did they really think the catnip bar wouldn‘t call about some underage familiars, more than probably students of the school?

Hearing the stern voice calling, “Hold it right there,” Warren knew they were busted if he didn’t do something fast. Biting his brother quickly, he mumbled the spell to send him back to his room and waited just long enough to receive his brother’s ‘thanks’ back before running for a bush and starting his own sending conjuration. Except that that voice was not to be ignored he found, as he heard a geas being laid on him to appear at a certain office at a certain time tomorrow. As he popped into his own room, there was fear of what was going to happen to him tomorrow because one could not dispbey a geas but there was wonder too. “So that’s how a magical compulsion was done.”

Feeling the geas pulling on him through the night made it difficult to sleep. As morning approached, he gave up, sitting at his desk trying to study and then when that was undoable, pacing. Often he’d find the doorway in front of him, waking with the chill of the metal knob in his hand.

Luckily he had no classes that day, a consideration when he’d agreed to go out with Erhard last night. Before even the sun thought of rising, he’d showered and dressed neatly, stepping outside and let the geas pull him to wherever it demanded. If he arrived too early, which seemed a real possibility since most sane people would still be in bed, all the better. Perhaps the geas would let him sleep when he arrived where he was going. Oversleeping shouldn’t be a problem unless he sleepwalked into his meeting. Warren assumed the geas might wake him … or the professor would.

It was outside a heavy oak door that the geas released it’s pull. Some kind soul had left several chairs nearby for visitors to sit. Warren wondered how many students had been where he was in the predawn hours. More than three to judge by the number of chairs waiting. If placed lengthwise a person could lie across them in an uncomfortable sort of bed. He did better and transformed into his kitten form, settling into a round ball of fur on one hard wood chair seat, not even waking when he was lifted and brought inside to be placed on a blanket in a open desk drawer and left to sleep.

‘Oh such bliss, to wake to fingers scratching behind his ears along the line of his jaw.’ Warren arched his neck to the side to try to tempt those fingers to further scratching, ‘running his motor’ as Brian use to call it when any of the kittens were purring. The wonderful hand disappeared and sleepily he tried prying his eyes open while going into a full yawning stretch, just stopping before bumping his nose by a whisker in the process.

‘That isn’t my headboard,’ was his first thought and then he remembered where he had to be and was in a panic to run out the door for his appointment except he didn’t know where that was or when and he’d … a hand came down on him preventing this explosion of activity.

“Be calm,” said a voice and Warren had heard that voice before. Opening his eyes wide, he realized he was on a Bunched up blanket in a deep drawer looking up at the wizard from last night’s debacle.

Theogrin looked down into the round large eyes of the teenaged Bengal kitten watching the panic rise and gripped the neck ruff before he made a mad scramble out of the drawer. “Be calm,” he said again lifting the kitten out to set him onto his desk still holding on.

“Now I think the chair in front of my desk would better serve you for our talk and of course human form. We weren’t well introduced last night, were we?”, so saying as he released him.

He had ample opportunity to admire the tawny coloring with the leopard rosettes marbling the lanky cat. Gracefully, the familiar dropped down to make the walk to the chair, leaping up to compose himself in the seat and started to groom himself. Theo expected a bit of grooming, after all the feline nature was strong in cat familiars but the grooming was lasting longer than it should.

Clearing his throat, Theogrin tried reclaiming the kitten’s attention. “Enough. Human form please,” and watched as a couple more licks were administered before the boy turned. The tawny coloring carried through into his human form, streaked with darker shades through his hair and dark brows over jewel green eyes. Beyond lovely and not legal yet to judge by appearances, protecting him would be important and not just from other wizards. Sighing at the task he’d set himself, he began.

“As I said, we did not have an opportunity for introductions. I am Professor Theogrin and I specialize in the field of Conjuration. Your performance last night was impressive for one your age and judging by the situation under which we met, you,” he pointed for emphasis, “require a mentor.” Leaning back in his chair, “So how about we start again. You introduce yourself and tell me more about the young familiar that I find in my office applying to be my student.”

The damn of words broke open with a hesitant trickle nurtured by his relaxed attentive nods into a thoughtful composed recital. The kitten was named Warren ibn Balthazar al-Duke-Brian; almost 15 years old, he had four older brothers, three same age brothers who were here at school with him, ‘and please sir, could you teach me how to do the compulsion spell from last night?’

He’d smiled and explained that laying a geas on someone was not done lightly and was graduate level study. When he was older and more mature, they’d see; and he was to not try figuring it out before hand like so many other young idiots.

If Warren wanted to try out new spells, at least in the beginning, Theogrin would be there with him monitoring. Once they were both aware of Warren’s capabilities they’d discuss any spells, running through them once or twice. Then and only then, if Warren was able enough, he might practice them on his own in the Spellnasium, where there was always a resident wizard for emergencies

Before all that though, there was a ‘shit load’, amused he watched the boy’s eyes widen, of studying that needed to be done. Warren should purchase himself a book to take notes in, where he could do drawings and record the spell experiments as he worked on them. Additionally he should have another book for recording the spells as he mastered them and a diary would also be an excellent idea. All of this was in addition to his regular class work.

Theogrin would be in touch with Warren’s other teachers to keep tabs on his progress. Above all, Warren was to come to Theogrin if ever he had a problem and even when he didn’t. He’d expect him for one meal during the week, Tuesdays if that worked best, and on another day for studying together.

It was a very happy familiar kitten who left his study, bouncing out the door on his little black padded paws. He watched through the window, as a spotted golden mist of tawny fur raced across the school lawn taking detours to leap up half way onto tree trunks before continuing on. Smiling he contacted the requisite persons to enter the changes to Warren ibn Balthazar al-Duke-Brian’s school record and to obtain his home address. He started composing a letter to Warren’s parents to advise them of the changes; he thought it best to make friendly overtures to them if things went the way he hoped. They would want to know about who the wizard was that their kitten was associating.
