Like magic his eyes cleared, though he had to squint in the bright light. He didn’t know where he was or who had owned the hand pulling him into and out of places. It had all happened so fast. One moment he was leaving the new bar, ever so tipsy as his grandma would say, and the next it was as if someone had pulled a darkness around him.
‘Through the gate, then through the door,’ sang in his mind. What that meant he didn’t know until his sight came back as suddenly as it had left and made out the ornamental metal gate that stood isolated at the edge of the woodland. Beyond that was a door standing likewise isolated, set amidst trees and grass.
