First it was the lack of snow and then it was the warm temperatures that trailed their way through into December. Santas stood, sweat beading their faces and dark patches on red suits that later would be limed with white, outside malls and larger stores ringing bells in weather that was normally reserved for summer. If you lived in Australia this would be nothing new or unexpected but this was the northern hemisphere. Global warming had either truly taken effect or something was disastrously wrong.
How anyone could get into the Christmas buying frenzy, that stores used to balance their budgets out of the red, no one knew. Winter coats languished alongside of sweaters, mittens and scarves. Cities and towns set aside holiday decorations, though some stores did try. The churches though played up the hot desert theme as true to life for the greatest gift given by God, the birth of the baby Jesus.
Far away at the North Pole the sleigh was fitted up with snow tires embedded with studs , a really grand idea as they’d make the interesting clicking sound somewhere between tiny hooves and bells. The reindeer would get to stay home this year and Mr. and Mrs. Claus could stay on their diets, not having to bake or consume all those cookies. It was a good year for the Claus’ and just what Mrs. Claus would have wished for if she’d known it was possible. Mr. Claus smiled at his cleverness and thanked God for knowing someone in high places.
Everyone knew that the best presents are those that were surprises and the World would have gotten coal anyway this year if it wouldn’t have increased the air pollution.
Yes, the Whos mourned their stolen Christmas but other whos thought it a proper lesson.
