Ed cautiously moved the beakers around on their shelf. This year neither of them had time off for extended anniversary getaways. They’d be lucky to be able to go into work late, Ed’s administration had said that unless you brought in a signed and certified hospital note you would be either at work or out of work. Theo’s employer had been less rigid but he knew that things were tense over at his government’s offices what with what was happening in politics right now. Theo was one of the lucky ones who wasn’t on furlough even if the pay checks weren’t currently being deposited into his account.
9 years they’d been together, his Yank and he. Ed stroked a finger down the handle of one of the beakers loving the feel of the hard smooth curve. The ceramic was cool to the touch, quite unlike the real thing in temperature, all the other attributes though … well maybe not the color. Theo turned a nice warm subtle pink that was satisfying to wrap a mouth around and the flavor … he loved Theo’s flavor.
Which reminded him, he’d better go check the dessert. It was needed to add the fillip to a romantic dinner, served up in the handled bowl with its custom inscription. He blushed as he recollected the amused look on Mrs. Crew’s face when he’d ordered the set. Face reddening further in remembrance of how he’d blustered out that it was for their anniversary’s dessert and, at the grin spreading out over the lady’s face, realized how else that could be taken.
Pushing all that aside in his mind, he admired the result. The ceramic pumpkin bowl would be perfect for serving up the Pumpkin based dessert. The smaller pumpkin bowls/beakers for the soup looked charming too and more likely to see polite company then the larger version with its custom inscription.
Mrs. Crew had added the opalescent glazing accents around the top to the serving bowl, at no extra charge since it was her suggestion, to go with the anniversary dedication. He'd had to be adamant that 'come' be spelled come and not cum.
“When the frost is on the punkin, then’s the time for Peter dunkin.”
