Eyes met eyes from two separate sofas. The low table between them held an envelope, slit open but still containing its contents.

“This is silly. One of us has to read it.” He reached for the envelope.

“I’ll DO it.” Quickly it was snatched from the table. “It’s my body after all.”

The paper hung down in its folds and Nathan’s face went slack.

“Well, what does it say?” Carl asked anxiously.

Swiveling his head toward the large salt water fish tank, Nathan spoke more to its occupant than Carl. “It says, … we’re pregnant.”

Otto triumphantly high fived himself.
