Arizona SB 1108
Apr. 24th, 2010 03:19 pmWhen I first heard of this in the news media, *coughs* CNN, the focus was on illegal aliens and the cops being able to stop anyone they thought might be here illegally. We were assured that racial profiling would not be put into practice.. and we all believe that lie.
But there is more in that bill that is objectionable.
Okay from what I've read on another site that there were some restrictions against the carrying of knives that were repealed. *shrugs* Big news for that site but they are noticeably quiet on the other issues. (don't ask, it's an interesting site to lurk and make note of the crazies)
No, the interesting other stuff has to do with their education policies and what it means and how it will be put into practice.

The legislature finds and declares that:
1. A primary purpose of public education is to inculcate values of American citizenship.
2. Public tax dollars used in public schools should not be used to denigrate American values and the teachings of western civilization.
3. Public tax dollars should not be used to promote political, religious, ideological or cultural beliefs or values as truth when such values are in conflict with the values of American citizenship and the teachings of western CIVILIZATION.

Arizona Bill Would Ban Race-conscious Organizations on Public Campuses
by Dana Forde , April 21, 2008
"Students attending Arizona’s public schools, community colleges and universities may be restricted from operating race-based organizations on campus following a proposal recently approved by a state legislative panel.
According to media reports, the measure would prohibit the operation of student groups such as the Black Business Students Association (BBSA) at Arizona State University, Native Americans United at Northern Arizona University and other organizations “based in whole or in part on race-based criteria.” Critics of the measure say it threatens diversity-related initiatives and attacks necessary minority student-led organizations. However, Rep. John Kavanagh, R-Scottsdale, a supporter of the new measure, says groups that incorporate ethnic or racial identity are “self-defeating” and “self-destructive” for students."
Had to add this.
Another site quotes Rep. John Kavanagh, a member of the Appropriations Committee:
"This bill basically says, 'You're here. Adopt American values,' " said Kavanagh, a Fountain Hills Republican. "If you want a different culture, then fine, go back to that culture."
Tell me where do the Native Americans go back to?
*goes back to looking for the rest of this bill, it's surprising how difficult it is to find it in it's entirety*
