Carpenter's Star Quilt

The classic Carpenter Star quilt block using 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes).
This traditional quilt is also known as the Star of Bethlehem and Carpenter's Star. It is often made with squares and diamonds, but it is done with half square triangles Made of squares and half square triangles because they're so quick and easy to make and don't require y-seams!

QUILT SIZE
83" x 83"
BLOCK SIZE
9 1/2" unfinished, 9" finished
QUILT TOP
1 package 10" print squares (need 32)
2 1/4 yards of background fabric or 1 package of 10" background squares
--- (use 32 for half square triangles + 16 cut down to 9 1/2")
BORDER - for 6" border
1 1/2 yards
BINDING
3/4 yard
BACKING
7 3/4 yards - vertical seam(s) or 2 3/4 yards 108" wide
Background squares. Some will need to be cut down to 9 1/2" = 16 total.
Sew 2 10"print squares into half square triangle blocks.
Draw line from one corner to the other and sew 1/4" seam on either side. = 2 9 1/2"triangle squares.
You need 16 total.
Repeat this with 16 white and print squares to = 32 9 1/2"triangle squares.
Sew together to make 4 quadrants and those together to make the whole.
